Other than people who work in the field and are absolutely necessary, Stankey and his cohorts will first cut all that they can from the offices and then outsource those remaining jobs to cheaper countries. That's where all of this is leading. There will be barely any Americans working for the company in the 2030s.

yep stank has been doing it since 2000 and every part of the company he touches.
he is pretty worthless all he can do is be innovative at cutting. doesn't take a lot of skill except for talking in a low voice at town halls.

A friend working at a local ISP in the 1990s was gradually "acquired up." Verio purchased them and his local NOC was folded into their regional NOC, but fortunately there was Netmeeting and SSH and he stayed on. The regional NOC eventually was folded into one. He was let go when Verio itself was acquired.
I remember watching all this happen and thought, "that could happen to us, we could be reduced to routers and 200 people working in a NOC."
What would prevent that were the complex multi-tier business contracts for fat pipes and the thicket of government regulated services at federal, state, and local levels.
Gov as customer will continue to be an opportunity, but fat pipes to businesses is going away as they move up to the cloud.
We did (and do) own a network of COs built to support racks of old 4ESS relays that could have been filled instead with servers as distributed data centers for cloud. Nope! Missed that one!
