Seagate has a bad policy for their layoffs. There is no consideration for reviews or experience. Their policy is all money they let the cream of the crop or employees that are their brightest and most inventive go. That works out to be their older most experienced employees that have dedicated their lives to Seagate. I can understand why the younger generation does not dedicate themselves to a company. This seems like it should be illegal. I don't see how Seagate gets away with laying off a majority of their older workers. All I can say is don't plan on retiring with Seagate because it doesn't matter how key your job is or what you have invented or produced for them there is no appreciation. Once you are older they boot you out the door. Shame on Seagate.

When they dump an entire department or division, they don't have to worry about discrimination.
Its more about demographics than anything. HR has a formula they follow for calculating how many of each gender, age group, ethnicity, etc. has to be laid off in any RIF so as to create the illusion there was no 'discrimination' or bias.... this is to prevent any potential lawsuits from those types of claims. Performance has nothing to do with it. Note this is not just at Seagate, this is across almost all corporate US entities - they all follow this practice. IMO this is discrimination in and of itself to require so many of each to be laid off to maintain 'balance'.
I tried to wink and nod at my HRBP. She put me on a PIP.
They had other employees that volunteered but still let older employees go. The two guys I worked with are young both volunteered to leave. So now they are staying and also told me they are not going to bother to work hard. Basically quiet quitting. Doing nothing and still collecting their pay check.
Yeah. I’m thinking I should have understood that wink and nod better. This sheit show done exploded out the side of the industry diaper. I’d say clean up on isle three but ain’t nobody around to do it.
Keep in mind this layoff had a wink and nod involved so I think a disproportionate number of older workers bailed.
