Bothered By Management Getting Promotions and Oracle treating ICs like Trash

Management getting promoted, ICs getting no raises/promotions for two whole fiscals at a minimum, or just laid off

You are lucky you have received a raise at all. I have been with Oracle 3 years now with no raise or bonus.

Two whole fiscals? Lucky. It's been 19 fiscals for me. Last raise or bonus of ANY kind was in 2004 and that was a meager 2%. But, hey, a hundred grand is a hundred grand, and I barely have to lift a finger. Both my vehicles are paid off and I only carry a mortgage that's already under $100K. No complaints.

I’ve been lucky to work with great managers, for the most part. Both my direct manager and the ones I cross collaborate with daily.

There are a select few that I hope get taken out with the trash. It’s astounding to me that these people have made it so long where they are. Good luck in the future!

Managers have been treated like dirt for years now. I have zero problems with somebody finally getting rewarded. Their good fortune doesn't take away anything from me, even though I've been getting crumbs. If I don't like it then I have the option to leave, but I'm comfortable enough with what I'm doing. Stop with the crab bucket mentality and trying to pull people down.

I'm perfectly happy being an IC. Why? I actually do things at Oracle, and I create value. So many "managers" try and hatch their schemes and plans, and play all day in Confluence/Slack/JIRA and whatnot. So many people at Oracle like to make big plans and strategies, but without those that actually do the work (like me) their plans often fail - and they along with them. Those within Oracle, go ahead and subcribe to the spaces where "Managers" and "Schemers" make their plans, and sit back, laugh, and realize "Who are they going to get to actually do that work?" I can only imagine how the "Managers" and "Schemers" promote their plans with the bright shiny people at Oracle only to realize that there are few people to actually execute whatever plans they cook up. Be happy/proud you are an IC, because YOU do the actual work and provide value! The schemers come and go. They only add "conceptual" value.

Look at the questions being asked and people wonder why there were layoffs, SMH.

Became an IC5 15 years ago. End of the road. Jokers have become VPs now.

Promotions mean more responsibility not more money. What you want is more money then a promotion

The comment about trash is true. The phrase in India is "digging in the dirt". The people at the top do not "dig in the dirt". If you are an IC at Oracle, you are the lowest level of the Oracle caste system. Seems like almost everyone in the royalty layer is Indian these days.

But you are like trash. There's the oligarchy way up on high, then there are the lowly ICs groveling around pathetically in the muck below. You are a commodity and nothing more. Equivalent to a roll of TP and only 1/2 notch above the guy flipping burgers at McDonalds. The sooner you accept this the sooner you'll be able to sleep better at night
