Thread regarding UPS layoffs

will the new plan to store rural customer packages until there is a truckload cause layoffs?s.

ups drivers in the north have been notified rural packages will be stored at facility until there is a truckload full and worth the fuel to deliver. will this cause layoffs and lost work hours? rural customers are paying the same as anybody else with no delay or inconvenience discount. ups gave drivers the start date of next week.

There is confirmation now that some areas have indeed started storing rural packages one week ago. Other areas are making room in the 45 foot over the road truck trailers that U.P.S. has on most of their package car centers that are spare empty trailers and plan to start next Monday storing rural packages. The package car preloaders are not happy as this becoming a disorganized mess already and the nose of the storage trailers may hold the box for that day's rural delivery but now you cannot reach it without pulling the packages by the roll up door out of the way first. It is just a matter of time before this new experiment flops out.

Wow. What a terrible plan.

Expect UPS business to trail off in those markets, to the point where the flow of packages will be a trickle.

Will they keep a package for months until enough trickle in for a truck?

It definitely is not going to go over well. The drivers knew about this several weeks ago but were not told the start date till now. No one is happy about this nor wishes to let the customer know yet as employees feel it's the company's responsibility and no driver wants to be tied to such an erroneous customer service action.

If that is true then I will make sure that when I buy anything online that the shipping method is not via UPS.
