@1hsj - Probably conditioned Nvidia's access to CHIPS act money on them at least trying out Intel foundry. From the way Jensen spoke, it seems to me he's just going through the motions but isn't really interested in moving any significant part of the business to IFS.
Intel doesn't inspire trust from Nvidia in technology, in personnel, in culture, in history, in business, and everything else one can think of. Uncle Sam must have put a lot of pressure on Huang to try Intel. Are there still straight sho-ters left at Intel who can work?
It's good to cultivate multiple suppliers even if you just throw them some scraps. Pretty much the same reason why engineers use junk companies to create competing offers.
Time to polish the rear view mirror....oh wait do I even my wheels on LOL
@dqg - Nvidia doesn't actually need to go to Intel in order to get price cuts and capacity from TSMC. They just need to threaten and appear to go to Intel, which is exactly what they are doing.
@hvk - Congratulations, stock price is now above $30 again ... time for champagne !!!
Being as objective as possible... we probably won't know until the orders actually go into production.
However:
- It is very likely NVidia will use INTC to get price cuts and capacity from TSM, wouldn't you?
- Price per MM^2 for contract manufacturing will go down with more competition
- Intel is high cost producer so, margin $ / wafer will go down compared to IA products.
- Will it be profitable? Only if Intel cuts 30,000 heads to get close to TSM cost structure
They'll keep putting out fake news and cause stock to go up. Run for cover, shorties.
