Thread regarding AT&T layoffs

How many have already decided to quit?

I'm wondering, how many of you who visit this forum regularly have decided to quit? I'm still on the fence, but I'd lie if I said I'm not considering walking away. I don't trust this leadership enough to think they'll do right by me even if I uproot my life for them. But I don't have much choice right now. Hopefully, I'll be able to find something before I have to make the decision.

It is already been spoken that severance WILL be in place for those unwilling to move for the P0S company. Seriously, who in their right mind would move for a chance to keep your job on a ship that has been taking on water for a decade and has no hope of recovery.

Skankey is the worst leader in business. The BOD is right there with him since they are unwilling to see the writing on the wall.

Don’t spend your severance money until you get it. I’m pretty sure if you don’t move if your job does you won’t get a severance.

25 plus years. I’m not quitting, because I am convinced that’s what their desired outcome is. They will have to involuntarily terminate me when I tell them I will not relocate, and pay my severance. Then I will happily walk into the sunset.

I heard some people who are currently in Hoover were told to be in Alpharetta by 12/31. I overheard this in a hallway. Don’t know which group. What a crock.

"I wonder if there will initially be a rash of severance offers..."

I also feel like this might be the case, and if enough people take it, they might reverse course on the whole hub locations thing, so it's a gamble that some might want to partake in. Sit tight and hope enough people leave with that offer, and it all blows over? Or stop wasting your time, take the money and go find something better? One thing that I'm worried about is that we might have an opportunity to receive that severance pay, but if we don't take it, and they continue to move forward, we might end up getting pushed out without it, and I don't think I'm willing to risk it. If it gets to it and there is an offer on the table, and no guarantee it will still be there if not taken at that time, I will likely be taking it.

“We were told to report to the office starting next week, 100%, no exception.”

Summer is here. It’s a new season!

You don’t quit. You update your resume, start searching for jobs, and wait for your package.

The job market is still good. You’ll be fine.

If you think you won't be impacted after you uproot your entire family and move to the hub, then you're being naive! Remember how T told management employees that if didn't leave by Dec.31st, 2021 they would lose their monthly retirement health insurance stipend of $2700/mon. or $4200 depending if you're single or married. Well, retirees are losing that in 2024. There are no guarantees with this company anymore! You might just want to find another job with a more solid company rather than keep riding this poorly managed disaster!

We were told to report to the office starting next week, 100%, no exception. What happened to 10% virtual they supposed to allow? It appears each org is making its own rule and wants to show that they are outperforming... they need to review individual cases to make the right decision and sadly, that is not happening.

You do have choices. The choices are to comply and move to your HUB location and keep your job or find a new job. Pretty simple. Moving isn't that hard. Finding a stud like Stankey to work for is. I recommend U-Haul for boxes. #DallasBound

".....You're clearly not in the position of having worked for the company a long time and have the fortune of earning a pension. ....."

I actually do. I worked for T 24 years... just months short of meeting MR75 and left due to the pension hit last year.
Left with no job lined up, no back up plan, just weeks before the deadline of November 30th so I can keep my pension in tact.
I have kids and family to support.... made the jump because I refuse to lose 35-40% of my pension.....
Life could not be better now. Less stress.
New job, which was not hard to find, and life balance is much better.
Trust me, you have options. T is not the only place to work.

"It's hard to imagine people actually thinking of uprooting their entire life for a "JOB".
It's mind blowing to imagine that you have no other option. So So Sad."

You're clearly not in the position of having worked for the company a long time and have the fortune of earning a pension. The "sad" part is the company did away with pensions for younger workers...

Once you get to a certain level in the company and have a pension you get the golden handcuffs. Maybe try putting yourself in that position to better understand their plight.

I haven't decided to "quit", but I have made decisions. If offered the ability to work virtually, I will most likely do that. I will not be commuting hundreds of miles a day to the hub that I am already mapped to. I'm waiting to see what my options will be if that comes to pass... if I get a severance offer, I'll take it. Otherwise, I guess they will have to fire me. I won't voluntarily resign. Why make it easier for them? I do wonder how much of this will actually happen. I have rarely seen a long term strategy play out successfully since my time here at AT&T. I wonder if there will initially be a rash of severance offers and people already in hub locations going to the office more, where the other things, like relocating teams, may never actually happen on a broad scale until the next big strategy comes down the pike to replace this motivation and morale ki-ling one.

You actually have choices if you think about it. I'm playing the long game. I'm not quitting without another job and I'm not moving for this company. If they want me gone I'll take the severance in accordance with the severance policy. When severance runs out I'll file for unemployment and keep looking for another job. Until then, I'll continue to do my job from where I sit now.

100% OP.

On fence here, too. Hoping for a virtual role but not optimistic.

Who here has been told directly by supervisor "show this date, at this place?" I haven't, it's all been "might-be" or" possibly-never".

If and when that happens, I will be leaning toward leaving. Might stay and show up in hub just to cast a "vote" against this idiocy, but leave once the immediate real purpose (improvement of cash flow) is passed. That would be on my nickel and not insignificant even if couch-surfing with relatives for a month or two. But fun to think about if enough of us did it.

After watching A&M debacles turn into debt and stock performance, I have low confidence in either CEO or board. Why are these people still in charge?

Over years I Invested a lot of time in learning and developing and improving specific processes, much of it off hours when uninterrupted by anyone local or at company. Goodbye to that if I am in an office. There are other companies where that kind of work is appreciated above the immediate management level.
