Thread regarding Fidelity Investments layoffs

New manager every year forever.

Can you imagine if Fidelity purposefully switched up CEOs every year for the next decade? New business direction, new company purpose, new budget, etc, every year? I'm asking because I've had a new manager more times than my years of service at Fidelity for the last 10 years. Yes, 11 managers in the last 10 years. Each manager wants something different from me in order to get a promotion. I give up. Promotion will never happen. I call BS on the insanity. Time to apply elsewhere if I wasn't soooo close to retirement. Just insanity. If only I had a crystal ball 10 years ago...

@Dzpl+1mMYdK5o wrong you are. I know a couple of people 64+ that got promoted last cycle. They have both stated that we just waiting for the next VBO or 2 more years which ever comes first and they retire.

Sorry to say this, but If you are close to Retirement, you will not be promoted even if you had a stable Manager. The management sees promotion as a investment in someone and the higher ups have already decided. You can apply for other roles in Fidelity at next level.

I was bored one day, so I counted how many managers I’ve had. I left after 20 years, and had 18 managers.

You should make yourself known on a level higher than your manager. Perhaps there is more stability at a higher level. You can ask someone to mentor you.

I left Fidelity and got a $40,000 raise with free medical. Fidelity is a good company but don't buy into the green machine propaganda on LinkedIn. There are other fine, great firms to work for.

I was at Fidelity for 25 years, had a great career but the constant running joke was, "how many managers have you had?" I actually lost count but it was in the high teens. The 2nd running joke was, "how many times has your office moved?". It can actually work to your benefit if you are a solid SME, as they can't do without you. When colleagues complained about their manager, I would just say, "hold on, wait it out, they won't be there for long. All sad but true!

Actually was looking something from Fidelity now in the morning. And found this page. It's funny and scare on how we know just the tip of the iceberg of corporation.
I found this topic interesting and will give an advise from a underdog.
If you try to please you manager or stick your manager you would be a locked into this ridiculous system of politics of corporations. End up that if you are successful in politics and a good people's pleaser maybe you will get something.
But I will invite you into something different. Create you own path in career. Don't depend in any manager with your career. Be selfish with your carrer(help others and be helped but dont wait for that). Found a good opportunity give it a go. Change of expertise, roles, companys. Otherwise you could be locked with a manager that don't give a sh-t for you and get raises that don't match inflation. Free yourself of the bulshit.

Befriend your manager's manager. They stick around a few years, and your manager has to ask them to award you EP/shares/bonus anyway, so...

I have the same problem but it has gone on more years and more managers. Hard to establish yourself on the team and get shares and good reviews no matter how good you are at your job when you are constantly the new guy. Managers already have their favorites on the team and you cannot break that when you get thrown around. This is a real problem that many experience here. The only way to break it is to go to a completely different BU or just leave.
