Thread regarding Seagate Technology Inc. layoffs

Unionised STST

We're nearly there.Seagate Springtown management have twenty days to appeal the court decision. Will STST waste their time and money appealing the decision,or will they hold their hands up and admit defeat.HR and management will now have to abide by employment laws and not their own made up laws. The tide has turned.

We've all seen the list of names nominated for the collective consultation election. Some of those people are "company men" and should not get voted in.They will be there to serve themselves and the company only and will be of no benefit to us operators .Nominated by management no doubt,it will be a farce if they get voted in.Vote wisely folks because it will backfire badly if we don't.As a C shift employee I'm worried about some of the people nominated as there are three or four names on that list that are not to be trusted and are seen as company men.We all know who they are .

The construction of the new fab at NRM was started long before any mention of a union in STST.Just saying.

Yeah. As if Unite can speak to the cloud customers and ask them to buy more drives to afford the luxury of no job losses and pay rises. Get real people

@ dyg+1mLZ367F - you're right, a good rep will be honest with their members and not make false promises or pick fights just for the sake of it. By all means they should challenge when necessary but also be honest from the outset that they may not win every case.

If they do try and fight it they'll only be delaying the inevitable.Management promising that the ICD forum will be more open and that employees will have more of a say won't change people's minds about wanting a union on site.It will happen, not if but when.

I'd heard zero about this through internal channels, of course. But this brings me great joy to see.

It'll be really telling if, after all this in the past couple days, they spend the money to fight the union.

They can't drag it out more than the 20 day appeal window.Hot heads shouldn't get nominated. We need smart people to represent us,not people looking for a fight.Everything needs to be open and transparent, things need to be explained to us and questions need to be asked.

This is an important topic, so please keep this thread clean from naming names and name-calling, so the thread doesn’t get deleted by site mods.
I think union reps are public figures, so it would be ok to name them, but middle managers and employees aren’t.

More than likely they will drag this out as long as possible. I hope that when the union is finally in a position to CB ( maybe next year) that the failed ICD, OFT, ERT (and other abbreviations) members involved in it now will step aside and let the grown ups talk. Dont want to replace dictators with new ones. We'll need people like SC to rep us not people who throw the toys out when they dont get their way. Cue the obligatory 'union bashing' response ..........
