AIG to sell Validus for $2.985 Billion

From Insurance Journal July 2018:

American International Group Inc. said it has completed its acquisition of Bermuda reinsurer and specialist insurer Validus Holdings.

The $5.56 billion all-cash transaction was first announced in January, about eight months after Brian Duperreault took over at AIG as president and chief executive officer.

You see kids that's how business is done. You pay your CEO hundreds of millions to buy a tu-d of a company to help out some buddies. Five years later the CEO is retired and AIG takes a $2.5 Billion dollar loss after paying said CEO hundreds of millions in salaries. Now that's a winning business model!

Management to be given more perks for making this big money losing move buying an asset high and selling low.

To be fair on this they are not selling everything bought so price not comparable. As they are keeping Talbot and some US business.

There will be likely be assets for sale for the next 5 years. How else will they justify giving the PZ his excessive salary, while denying everyone else salary increases.

I think the previous poster is correct about the big guy getting his share, but not sure PZ is the big guy. I think the real big guy sits on a small island in the Atlantic and calls the shots from an offshore entity that is harder to investigate. Everything still runs through Bermuda.

One of BDs companies he had interests in. AIG math suggests this is a great deal! Always sell for less than you buy. Glad I have left, wonder if any of their leaders know how to tie their shoelaces.

Think the poster meant 2.9 billion in earnings bc that is what it was sold for

The question is how much does the big guy/Pirate Pete get to plunder? 5% of that?

If true why would PZ sell a business for less than a one year earnings multiple? Doesn't make sense no matter how you slice it unless the ultimate goal is to run off AIG piece by piece.

We'll have at least 2,9 billion earnings this year

How dare you insinuate there were kickbacks involved in this transaction. No one said anything about kickbacks?

Oh, right, just making sure. Sincerely, BD
