Has anyone heard about this? Possible strategy of re-categorizing existing jobs as hybrid, requesting people currently in those jobs to re-apply, and thus forcing relocation or exit?

Then they can say to the media that they “added” all those positions as new jobs.🤦♀️

Haven't heard of it lately, but it wouldn't be the first time. I wouldn't put anything past CuckoldWayne and his failed big bank cronies.
That usually happens in a re-org, they make you reapply. That happened in this one bank area last fall. They made everyone reapply, some got to keep their job, and some went to other areas, and a few just left.
I have heard of this in re-orgs before, yes. I haven't specifically heard of it for THIS situation or for the current time. But I have heard that in a re-org - re-applying for jobs or jobs within the org is a thing. Happened in HR in like 2014/15.
