Thread regarding Follett layoffs

I got a job!

Good-bye Follett! I got a job with a great company with a huge pay increase! I knew pay was low at Follett but I didn’t realize how low until I started looking. Every job I applied to was offering more. And now I am going to a growing, positive company and leaving this dying, negative company. I didn’t think so at the time I got laid off, but I am super happy and excited now. I wouldn’t have looked for new opportunities unless I was forced and forced I was. But yay! I can’t tell you how happy I am!

I work in publishing and have 2 job openings that I know are way better than any cr-ppy Follett job (I worked for JH for 15 years)…look at the job listings on AAUP, SSP, Publishers Weekly…we regularly post jobs there.

Work on your resume. Those that worked 20 years ago don’t work today. I used a bit to write mine. It cost $20 and was super quick, easy, so professional and totally worth it. And don’t forget to network. I posted on my own Facebook that o got laid off and job tips poured in. I was making 44k at Follett. New job is 56k.

If you've been with follett for 28 years, you may need some help with resume writing, interview skills, etc. A lot changed since the Clinton Administration. Children born the year you started at follett could be hiring managers, for instance.
Stick with it. You'll learn and adapt. You're better than follett told you were. You have skills. You have to know how to communicate those skills and you have to know how to demonstrate the impact you'll have in your new company.
