Thread regarding USAA layoffs

How did we get here

Here's a repost from EJS-like site:
This might be a good time for a history lesson. I’ve been at usaa for more than 10 years in P&C Claims. I can’t remember exactly what position Wayne had when I started but it was Executive Director level or higher. He then made his way up, eventually becoming the President of all of P&C. During his reign in P&C he destroyed the department, to the point we needed to go through “Segmentation”, which ultimately failed because he refused to provide the resources needed to get things back on track. People other than him were demoted and moved but ultimately it was his fault. It’s not a secret that’s why Admiral Seering left, it wasn’t because he had a strong desire to be a CEO, its because he could see that Wayne wasn’t about fixing problems, all he wants is to cut costs and increase his own pay. He made horrible decisions on how work should flow, breaking processes, doing everything he could to increase profitability at the cost of employees and members. Then a few years ago, after decimating P&C he somehow failed forward and is now doing to all of USAA that he did to P&C. Under his reign of te---r the bonus has been at historic lows, benefits have been cut, retirement plus taken away, PTO changed, EJS removed, etc. He’s not even a leader, he’s greedy POS who is in the process of destroying USAA to increase his pay and bonuses.

When will people realize that Wayne and the new leaders are on a mission - not the mission we knew and loved. A mission to cut costs at any cost. He’s doing the job he’s been told to do. Employee experience and culture mean nothing anymore and are likely destroyed forever.

you guys... Cities and states grant billions in tax incentives to US companies every year to open offices in their area.

I meant to say "support WFH" and not "support RTO"

@lem+1mEpa3VL I agree, but have you seen the BoD lately? They're so old they probably still think you can walk into USAA's home office and hand your resume to the hiring manager to "show some initiative."

I highly doubt they're tech savvy enough to realize just how impractical RTO is for the overwhelming majority of people. And even if they did, they don't care.

WFH wasn't something that they had during their career, so why should we need anything different? Of course they fail to consider all of the technological advances that they lived through such as transition to computers rather than paper files, access to the Internet, mobile-first communication, etc.

Most of these folks from the top down are out of touch. It doesn't surprise me that the vast majority of leaders who support RTO are ~45 or younger. (There are exceptions, of course, but generally speaking...)

Wayne will destroy USAA to a certain extent, but even he is only one person. There are non-EMG employees who say things like "RTO is a small price to pay for what USAA has done for me". And people like Wayne prey on suckers like that to keep coming back for more beatings. So there is plenty of blame and complicity to go around at all levels at USAA for the cesspool it's turned into. It's like one big highly dysfunctional family.

But it will be a great day for USAA when the BoD shows Wayne the door. And it can't happen soon enough.

I hope BOD wakes up and get rid of incompetent washed up leaders asap and appoint a real competent president and ceo before these POS leaders destroys the USAA.
ps: amala is the worst, I can't believe how she is able to hold this job

Wayne extremely underestimated how much WFH kept employees from giving up on all of the BS. With RTO he's reaping what he sowed and nobody's gonna hold back now.
