Vale’s termination - preempting public release of info

The more I have thought about this, which is a great distraction from the sh-t show that is my job at 3M, the more I am convinced it has to be something criminal and they were preempting a public fallout:

  1. Rob Cessena was actually NOT fired right after he was arrested, that news broke March 14, 2022 and the announcement of him leaving for other opportunities was beginning of May 2022. They received a TON of backlash for that and maybe learned.
  2. I worked under a SVP that was terminated for misconduct and it took months and months until a low key pursuing other opportunities message was released. No arrest, not illegal, just run of the mill hostile work environment stuff. So they did not make it public or sudden.
  3. Inge had a ha--m of female leaders at 3M but they were all theoretically willing participants, nothing law enforcement related. When you befriend a company flight attendant and she tells all - you learn this stuff.

So plenty of leaders have done some heinous behaviors but did not get this public axing like Vale just did. It will be super interesting to see what more comes out on this. It has to be pretty damn bad!

When I started at 3M 7 years ago I was told one of the members on our team is a misogynist. I was also told our senior leadership tolerated and even encouraged such behavior since this person is very talented.

The same senior leader hired an inexperienced woman to join the team based on what people felt were her looks and age. Our manager was then criticized for hiring her when management changed even though the new SVP knew the history behind the hire.

There is so much misogyny at 3M. It seems to be part of the culture. it is time for change!

Woodbury is an an absolute disgrace. It is a corrupt, crime ridden cesspool. Hundreds of posts on this site clearly show the collusion between 3M leadership and the government officials in Woodbury. Layoffs are traceable to Woodbury’s dirty tricks.

True. Multiple executives, as well as ordinary employees, more often than not, had so called “office” wives in addition to their marital wife.

Fun fact about me.
I’ve been happily married and faithfully for 36 years. I was a supervisor who married his secretary.

@adw+1mEnhFtU, good point. I know of 4 SVPs that “left to pursue other opportunities” that were fired for ethics violations. That is the tip of the iceberg.

No more GE hires ever, sadly the PR department has suffered many deep cuts over the years and I think some good people have done the best they could and have learned some hard lessons. Actually the one person I know on that team was part of the cuts.

Some stuff is trickling out about woodbury and a sting. Given the last sting that nabbed about 10 guys late last year, the processing time is about 3 weeks before the charges are made formal. Which means sometime between the "big" announcement for Vale in April and this termination, Mr. V must have done something that will make the news.

Yes the Cesena thing was a huge embarrassment for 3M employees and the corporate image. The public relations department must be filled with people who got to the top without actually being qualified and somehow got promoted (the usual way to get an undeserved promotion).

Unfortunately, while I think Roman is pretty straight up morally, his predecessors were not. The culture is pretty well engrained. The last honorable person we had was Desi.

Either way, this means Mike R lasts probably an extra year or two and his successor needs to be an external hire. Lots of good candidates out there working for the competition. Just no more GE please!
