- No raises or bonuses this year? job search. You have 1 week until notification date, use your time to spruce up your resume, cover letter, LinkedIn. Use AI to get a new headshot and download the trial version of LinkedIn Premium. If you need to upskill to pivot, start writing out the skills you need and how you will get them. Coursera, LinkedIn Learning are good resources to refer to. Network.
- Hoard the cash. Sell you STX stock if you can afford to and you are not in the red. You can also cancel you contribution to the current ESPP, this will make your last few paychecks with Seagate larger. You can do the same with your 401k contributions. If money feels tight and you are worried, these two options will help quickly boost your on hand cash and it’s one less thing you have to keep track Seagate refunding you, if you are laid off.
Go ahead and download your last 12 months of paystubs. You won’t have access to these after you are let go and you will want to check that Seagate is accurately paying you (so have these to reference).
- Take your personal items home now. You have a week to take your personal ideals home from your office. Don’t rely on your manager boxing everything up for you, don’t be caught having to pack everything up after you get notice. Save yourself the trouble. Keep it in your car, if you are not laid off, you can always bring it back in.
In that same vein, save the things you need to save (that are personal) from your work computer. Email it to yourself (this could be benefits information, personal documents, positive feedback or performance notes, etc).
- Research what unemployment looks like in your state. Be prepared to take those steps next week if needed. Refer to any documents that are needed and download them, before you lose access.
- Get your medical needs organized. Schedule doctors, vision, dental appointments to occur within the next month, while you still have Seagate insurance. Fill all prescriptions. Get new glasses/a years supply of contacts.
