Thread regarding AT&T layoffs

Termination Pay

We all should know that any of us may be laid off so it's important that we each know what we'll get for termination pay (without dreaming of added incentives of the past). I am fortunate to be in the CWA/Leg T bargaining unit so with my seniority, when I'm laid off, I'll get 2 years pay. No matter what your political views are or what you think of the union, you too would like the two year paid vacation and then your monthly pension and 401k distributions. All those who react negatively to this simply wish they were in this boat. It all comes down to your Termination Package: what will you get when you're laid off. Some workers, unfortunately, are jealous, disrespectful, envious and rude towards those of us with more lucrative Termination Packages. I'm proud to be union and looking forward to my inevitable layoff. How bout you?

I miss my sitting on my a$$ Leg-T article 41 job. Got forced to Article 43 6 years ago, but will still get the 2 years IF we ever get a VTP.

Pension migration has started. Will not be long before bottom feeders are all rolled over. Next will be the spin or sell off of the “labor” side as a contractural labor group. It was done to a good portion of IT so it is always a possibility.

The Leg T/CWA labor agreement does contain specific language for termination pay and it's a sliding scale depending on number of years seniority with max being 104 weeks pay for workers with 31 years and more. This payout is the same whether it's voluntary or involuntary. Again this is for the Leg T contract.

Not really wanting to poke holes in the “two year pay” for VSP, but has anyone actually seen the verbiage stating that?

I haven’t found anything stating two year pay!

I have found the severance payment table which provides you a lump sum payment depending on years of service. The MAX payment on the table is for the highest pension band is $88,130.

Once you have been separated the actual verbiage states:

“The employee shall receive a VSP calculated in accordance with the provisions of Article XVIII, Severance Payments, of the 2017 Departmental Agreement, payable in monthly installments of 1/24th of the total VSP.”

Meaning you get a % of your severance spread out over 24 months. You don’t get two years pay.

Here's an example of a silly post that the OP is laughing at:

"Uhm. If you’re as senior as you claim , you won’t be getting laid off. You’ll just be forced doing the work that your now laid off junior techs did while you sat on your a-s."

Funny that this poster is clueless as to what they're talking about. First, I am not a tech. Second, before junior workers are laid off, the company announces a surplus and a specific number of VTP spots which go by seniority. Thus, high seniority workers get the Voluntary Termination Package. Third, while you're correct blabbing about me sitting on my a$$, my job does require me to sit on my a$$ in an office chair. And likely, you seem to imply that I'm lazy and non-productive however again you are wrong. I've been a high performer with perfect or nearly perfect attendance for all my career. So as you should now be able to see, it is little people like you who make others laugh.

@CWA Legacy-S employee. I'm legacy-s D4. Termination pay up here is 88 weeks pay. Not quite 2 years, but close.

For shallow entertainment, the OP has been periodically reading posts on this forum for a few months laughing and this is her first post. Funny how predictable people are depending on what their entitlements are upon being laid off. Humans are funny.

As a CWA represented leg-S employee I completely admit it would be nice if the same union we both belong to were able to negotiate a deal like you have for the rest of us. Enjoy your privilege!!
