Thread regarding Optum layoffs

Massive Optum and UnitedHealth Group Layoffs beginning

Facts: Flat hiring, no additional FTE growth for the forseeable future. Planning underway for 8-10% reduction in force, eliminating low performers and teams, collapsing badly staffed spans/layers of leadership. Honestly this is badly needed to gain efficiencies that should have occured long ago, but thousands will be notified soon. If you are a low performer get your resume updated and plan to be notified.

Do read about previous postings on mandatory “Stack Ranking”.

Each team “HAS TO” have a poor performer. Your manager “HAS TO” pick someone from his/her team and tag them as a poor performer.

Whether you realize it or not, you are constantly being pitted against others in your immediate team.

What's considered a "poor performer"? I know this is ratings of 1,2, but what about a 3? Especially if you are new in role - is a 3 performance rating a poor performer?

Updated career stories already happened on the UHG side too. Supposedly it's done biannually but seems like a step before layoffs.

A friend shared the below JD sent by a recruiter seeking PM (contractor) for this org. Read the below excerpts and LMAO- Why do we need "leadership"? Now we know why they like contractors! The last sentence said it all- outsourced to a third party...

"The PM's responsibilities will require the PM to indirectly supervise other employees, thereby making the ability to lead through influence vs. direct authority a critical skill for the PM to demonstrate. The role will also require direct oversight of contract / vendor labor in project situations where a component of the project work is outsourced to a third party.

Beginning?! It’s been happening. Where y’all been? I got the axe last November. They are doing it in small numbers to avoid a WARN act.
All the “Digital Conversions” was just a way for Matthew Stilts to get his vaporware systems pushed and get rid off anyone who disagreed with him.
IT is the overbloated department not to mention they are now realizing all that CRES cost for real estate was costing them plenty but folks refused to return to the office. The North Hills office in BoA building is down to one or two floors and is STILL empty.
There is no guard at the door on 11. The whole company is just a shell.

Updated career stories due by tomorrow for 29 and above in IT. I believe the leaders need to complete a 9 box for their teams.

Ref: contractors are easy target- “real leaders” hide behind them to avoid having to manage staff .. let the “real staff” duke it out with the contractors. When in doubt rid off the contractors.. then reevaluate “real staff” performance .. RIFs is imminent .. repeat the above and “leaders” jobs now safe!!

How this company (Optum) works is beyond a miracle.

  • IT teams are over crowded with resources with no real meaningful work.
  • Shady practices by managers hiring 'Friends' and 'Friend of Friends' :) .
  • The practice of engaging IT contract firms and IT contractors for work by all means breaks most Labor laws!

3 new Directors just got hired from the former Change Healthcare side. Some hiring still happening quietly for some groups. It is who you know that gets you anywhere here.

Badly needed? How about getting rid of all the leadership that failed. Ridiculous.
