That’s what JRC does. Google it. They purposely buy failing companies at steep discounts, cut as much of the costs (ie labor, investments in upgrades, etc) as possible to still keep it going and then sell the assets at a handsome profit. So what does Follett have that could possibly sold at a profit? Outdated tech? Specialized and unappealing GM products? Infrastructure? Certainly not. But what it does have is the ability and potential to create ACCESS programs across the nation. Access contracts that can be sold off at very high profit. JRC only wants the stores as conduits into access contracts. They don’t care about the stores themselves or the small percentage of profit that they bring in. Even a big school, making millions of dollars, does not even begin to capture the true market value of their school’s merchandising sales. Is Nike trying to buy up campus stores for their GM market share? Is anybody else? Not even a little bit. But what about those guaranteed 100% sell through, financial aid backed contracts? Is anybody interested in those? Look at how many publisher reps are prowling your campus. Those contracts are worth billions with very little actual labor. And Follett is in the perfect position to obtain those contracts. And then sell them off.
Follett will be around for a few more years while it hustles as much money out as it can and then Follett will be another Sears, Kmart, CVS or Macy’s. That’s the master plan. And they are not taking you with them to their next distressed company.

At least BNED trimmed the fat from the top instead of store labor, unlike Follett..
New required coursework include cleaning the slurpee machine, keep the dogs spinning and the buns steamed.
Have you seen the BNED public financial disclosures? They way overpaid for Notre Dame and are struggling. They said they were cutting expenses which we all know means cutting labor. I don’t see that as a trend. Let’s wait for some other big accounts to come up for bid.
Yes, Fanatics/Lids made a $15million investment, for 2.3 million shares of BNED.
Losing Notre Dame was the death knell of Follett...
Concerning GM market hasn't Fanatics been investing in shares of BNED over the last few years?
