Just leave the company

Why serve these people any longer? It's very simple, Leave the company. It's modern caste structure in corporations now. The executive/protective class is milking "you the (slave/serf class)" in order to survive. I don't even care if you go back into another IT job, JUST LEAVE THESE CORPORATIONS and watch how quickly these people will start squirming. I refuse to serve these people any longer. 90% of them don't even deserve to be in the position their currently in, especially IBM, one of the worst offenders. The people above you are nothing. They need you to survive, remember that. Time to show them who has the real power. :)

The downvotes are for the way this comment is worded. This person seems limited intellectually and lack common sense. The job market is scarce and starting at a new company often means going back to less vacation days and flexibility. I live 8 miles from the IBM office and I finally have 4 weeks vacations. All the jobs I look at, I’ll be back to 2 or 3 weeks vacation, more expenses for commuting and the pay is also less by $5k to $15k. So the “Just leave” comment seems to be from a jerk low class person and frankly unnecessary. I want to stay at IBM as long as I can, but my last day is May 4.

It seems, recently, there is someone paid to down vote all the post in this site regarding this company, mainly those regarding its vicissitudes and wrongdoings (e.g. the actual RAs ). Why so many negative votes? The posting and comments seem usual for this site. Is this IBM HR? BTW, I heard IBM HR got hammered in this round of RA - we all feel sorry for you.

IBM is dying by attrition as it shrinks. The interesting question is whether or not the mainframe business (IBM's bread and butter) will survive as an ongoing entity. Mainframe developers who have not yet died or retired are an aging bunch, and it's very difficult to attract, train and retain new blood for a bunch of reasons.

There might come a time in the near future where IBM will either be bought up by a bigger fish, or end up being subsidized somehow by the US government...for no other reason than to keep the big iron supported.

A colleague and I just had this conversation last week. We have been calling it corporate communism. We are retiring after the new year but I still feel bad for the younger generation. They will never know what it feels like to have a fair and balanced work environment anymore.

I get what you saying, but in my somewhat decimated area, we had engineers with hybrid skills they spent many years honing, often never looking up long enough to get non-IBM certifications. Starting over, competing against newly “papered” candidates, in an often pointlessly brutal hiring competition….it doesn’t feel like the best option. Many of us also know what kind of demands the actual CUSTOMERS have on the product, and have a glimmer of hope that the market is going to demand a reversal of this course, and we’ll do what we always do…. “Save the day”. Hey, I didn’t say it was a HEALTHY belief…just saying…it’s what drives many. Especially the “”Fiddies”😂
