Thread regarding Intel Corp. layoffs

Going through the motions

I'm just counting down the days until I can retire. I figure I only need to tough it out for another 4 or 5 years and then I can kick back and relax. The thought of starting a whole new career at this stage in my life doesn't appeal to me at all. Why put myself through all that stress and uncertainty again when I'm so close to the finish line? Working here is far from ideal, but at least it's familiar and I know what to expect. Compared to the idea of starting over from scratch, it's definitely the lesser of two evils.

@3cuy i see your frustration here but I don’t think it’s OPs Responsibility to sacrifice his job and go work at McDonalds just because he’s dead weight. The problem is Intel refuses to identify dead weight and I mean whole departments up through its SVPs and just axe them. Intel has become gutless and the complete reverse of meritocracy, so why would you expect individuals to step up and sacrifice themselves for a company the gives zero regard for results?

OP, what a pathetic plan. It shows the complete lack of confidence that you have in your skills or probably more likely that you know that you have let those skills erode to the point that they are worthless. You and people like you are the over paid dead weight that is bringing the company down. Wake up and realize that you will need to be looking for a job soon. You can practice “would you like fries with that?” while standing in front of a mirror. Too bad Walmart doesn’t have greeters anymore.

Don't sit back and just count your days. I had planned my early retirement from Intel for May 2026 and got laid off last week. The severance is nice, but it's not the 3 years worth of pay andbenefits that would fill in that gap.

Paycheck is not for doing something, it's for showing up.

You are owed that . To be paid double what the ppl actually doing work are doing bc at one point you actually did work - and were paid for that work that you did at that time. It is not what you have done. It is what are you doing now. That is what the paycheck is for. It is for the value you are currently bringing. You sound like a baby who thought getting thru college would be the hardest 4 years (OMG IKR) and you are owed a living after that. You are owed nothing.

Right on. Ride that mule into the ground. That’s what I did for my last 5 years before I was able to retire and leave the nonsense behind. I put in more than my share of productive years but when you are nor treated properly and the effort is not reciprocated it was time to slack off and just acted busy. Criticize a few folks now and then just to show you are engaged and you too will ride of into the sunset. Giddy-up.

I was in the exact same boat, 4-5 years from retirement. But the daily thrash along with management setting us all up for failure and blatant disregard for our concerns burned me out. I was miserable and those years to retirement seemed like an eternity. So I sabotaged my career by pi----g off the right people, got the golden handshake, and left.

I’ve been much happier since and plan on working until I can’t, and not necessarily for a tech company. That’s my retirement plan.

You're either a VP, or thinking like one.

Agree on the splitting aspect.
Intel cannot survive in its current formation.
It will be interesting how it breaks up.

4-5 years is still pretty long. I’d guess you will see at least a company split and some spin offs. Don’t fool yourself by thinking that staying will be status quo.

Make sure you have at least one Roth account if you're US-based.
