NESC, Via Benefits and Alight……Pre HRA and Cobra

Nothing but a useless drain on the company. Receipts and proof of this and that are endless.

I am not sure I am supposed to have pre HRA dollars but I do even though I was part of the Aug22 cuts. I have been able to get reimbursed for my $33 dental premiums.

Make sure you are getting every penny back from Ford.

In my case we have the option to go on Cobra healthcare June 1 at 102% of the current cost and keep the same plan. When that runs out in 9 months out of pocket cost double in Marketplace plans.

Read up on Pre HRA dollars if you are under 65 yrs

HSA can’t be used for premiums. Hopefully you all stashed a bunch in there too and transfer you HSA to no cost Fidelity.

@1miw - yes. The lowest cost Blue Care Network bronze plan. If we stay healthy, we’re good. If health goes downhill, we can change plans next year. If major health issues come up now, our deductible is $9k each. Stay healthy, my friends.

@1miw+1m50ReN2 - agree with your comment about tax planning. I’m curious which health plan did you select? Bronze?

If you can keep your taxable income below $50-60K, you can get an ACA health care plan and qualify for government subsidies worth much more than the $500 Ford HRA. I declined the ford HRA and I’m only paying $75 per month for a plan covering both my wife and me. At this stage in life, tax planning is huge. Situations are different for everyone I’m well aware - just sharing my experience.

My understanding is that you can remain enrolled in the active medical and dental continuation under the program or waive the active medical and dental continuation under the program, opt in to your HRA, and enroll in retiree coverage. I didn't think you could use HRA dollars to pay for 'SIRP' COBRA. Good for you if you can. I do know you can use HRA funds to pay for 'regular' COBRA. So at least 2 months before your severance time runs out, start your HRA.

You are allowed to make a $4,850 deposit into an HSA for one person in 2023 as an example and anyone can take that amount off their federal income taxes regardless if you itemize or take the standard deduction. I would participate in this fully as long as one can afford it. Good luck.

Yes, you are supposed to get HRA dollars if you are SIRP'd and have the appropriate age and service. If you started post 2001 then you get $800/year of service plus a bit of interest.

If you retired and add to your HSA with after tax dollars, is itemizing the only way to realize tax benefits of HSA?

I don’t understand the OP. I am in the same boat and will get $500/month per person to pay for healthcare and dental through VIA Benefits.

By the way, great call on moving HSA to Fidelity. I did this last month!
