Alphabet has a union.

Microsoft can have a union too. So what's stopping people? #solidarity

Unions have their place and, historically, have been very valuable to industry but that was before global communication, labor laws and the press exposed truly deplorable business practices. A union at Microsoft would only serve to line the pockets of the union bosses, create opportunities for corruption and reduce the overall budgets available for compensation. We are taxed enough by the government, let's not add a "union tax" on top of that.

What value would a union add to a workforce at Microsoft, where we already get top salaries, bonuses, stocks (used to be stock options), great benefits, great working environment (home, hybrid, in office), and so on? Do you really want to pay 10% of your hard earned salary to a union that doesn't do much for you, but sit around, and at best negotiate your worth with msft leadership once a year or every 3 years? Do yo really trust that model? You can move to Sweden or Europe or other socialist countries for that. Good luck!

When techies unionize, they've admitted they're just little, identical, fungible, replaceable widgets. Good luck!

Microsoft is actively union-busting. Former MSFT staff: Neo-liberalism in Action: Microsoft Outsourcing the Work to Temporary Staff Without Any Rights or Leverage by Dissent http://techrights.org/2019/11/02/obeying-orders-at-microsoft/

What is stoping us? I can tell you, some SWE are very petulants, don't feel empathy for others and don't have community vision, I hope the others be enough to protect our employments with an union, we really need it.
