Definitely Storey.
I heard Karen was against buying Qwest, and voicing it was a mistake was what led to her departure after a screaming match with Glen.
Glen Post, wish he never would have bought Embarq.
Mumble Jumbo Nonsense.
CenturyTel was a darling of Wallstreet in the 2000's.
If they would have stopped after Embarq. CenturyLink would have easily weathered through all the mess.
Qwest purchase was so stupid.
Level 3 was the final nail on the coffin.
I say Storey and the entire level 3 upper management team.Things were good before CTL bought Level3. Buying level three was the worst thing CTL ever did.
Serial acquisition was CenturyTel's entire business model for decades. If you were in the weeds, you probably weren't aware of it. They bought company after company to juice revenue and distract investors for decades. They damn near lost the company in the 2000s to Alltel and sold off wireless as a result.
Not that they could run those companies either. Cut wages, or keep them flat while the rest of the industry rose, and underinvest in new services. CenturyTel was behind and falling even further than other rural telcos. Still putting in DSL when similar telcos had already switched to fiber.
Glen and Karen thought they had some sort of secret sauce, but it was just more protected from competition. Wireless, power companies, and other alternative providers would have shredded the business in time.
CenturyTel did not need to buy up other dying companies to stay afloat.
It was all about satisfying their Ego.
Buying Qwest or Embarq didn't sink Centurytel. It was always a house of cards going back to Williams. The only thing keeping it afloat was constant dealmaking.
Glen Post and Karen Puckett.
They both talked themselves into buying Qwest and destroyed CenturyTel.
I second Glen Post
Nachooooooooo
As an EX CenturyTel. Glen Post for Buying Qwest.
