New grad at intel. How to know the grade of my peers?

I'm a rcg at Intel, and wanted to know the grade level of my peers. How can I check it?
Also I'm G5 with MS degree. How long does it take to reach G6?

If you are a black, female engineer or other URM you can go from G5 to PE (Grade 10) in 5 years at the most - even faster if you are in a group that HR determines as not diverse enough.

Two to four years, depending on which group or department you’re assigned to. Obtain Outstanding reviews, or generate patents, and your time in grade will be shorter. Realize you are only five steps away from Principal Engineer. Most of us never make that.

Observe who's kissing whose azz, and you should pretty much be able to reconstruct your group's grade hierarchy from there.

You won't know unless you ask and they tell you. In some cases, you can know an employee's grade by their job title, but that is mostly with grades 10 and up, now. The job title giveaways for grade levels lower than 10 (like "senior" and "staff") are no longer used for the most part.

Grade 5 is exactly correct for a masters degree with little or no experience. Reaching grade 6 within two years should be easy. Find the career growth info (i.e., technical job ladder documentation) for your business group and make sure you're doing those things.

I would caution you to try to never get a promotion in a down year. I got a promo to grade 7 in 2008 with a paltry 3% increase in base pay and APB target increase from 1% to 3%. A total 5% increase in TComp with a promo compared to the ~3% average raise in the company that year and the Intel standard for promotions is 15%. That hurts you until they give you a market adjustment, which tends to be based on your specific job title and may never happen.

I smell a troll post. Also, at this rate nobody will get a promo anytime soon, and even if they do, the accompanying raise will be pitiful. You better hope your promo isn’t wasted during the “austerity” time.

Intel is a weird place, Grade level is one of those items they tell you to supress and not share (not directly as that is illegal). But you will find most people uncomfortable to share where they are, its the only place I have worked where promotions aren't celebrated unless they are the big ones that a business leader sends out (Principle Engineer/ VP, etc...)
I would hope as soon as you are competent at your position you can work your way to justify the next grade. Its normally not too much trouble to get up to G7, past that it really depends on the type of work and management. There is opportunity in this chaos so you may find an even accelerated path to higher grades. Good luck

The only way you will likely find out is to ask them. G5 sounds low for someone with a Masters. The negotiation should have been done before you accepted the offer. Are you in TMG or a non-Fab group?
