I was in a quiet preliminary round during the holidays. Just hearing about the cuts now. Lots of long time employees. Sucks all around. Good luck everyone on what you land on next. Unemployment is taking a LONG time so get that in even if you don't think you'll use it.

Does WARN(Worker Adjustment & Retraining Notification) Act apply for this layoff? Was a notice period of more than a week required for this round of lay-off?
This is/was a blessing in disguise. I’m happy to go and I’m proud to be on a happy new journey [:
Brown nosers and favorites, snowflakes and slackers. Hearing about who was saved is hilarious. Get rid of your current supervisors, then everyone just “might be” a little more happy coming to work.
Trust me, HR DOES “live for this” and they sure were cheesing it from ear to ear for my exit. After the commented about how well I was taking it, I responded by asking politely, “since I now know that I am in fact laid off, can I ask for one favor? They responded by nodding and I finish by saying “can you please stop being fake with me and just give me the information so that I may leave? (with an equally fake smile on my face)
Nepotism at its core, a lot more than just facilities and security are to blame. I’m blessed to be among rhe 4/5% that is no longer caged by that negativity.
shouldn't say "Fu-k ViaSat", the root cause is current administration. laying off is/will happening nationwide。 No any snowflake is innocent under an avalanche.
I've been affected, what is the typical severance package being offered?
Iridium is hiring engineers in Tempe
I'm totally ecstatic and happy that I got layed off from Viasat. I'm in a different boat and ready to retire. Time is precious and I don't have much time left on earth. Praying that God gives everyone peace and joy during these hard times. "When the world is running down, you take the best of what's still around." For me, I'm going to go outside and play!
There were 36 let go from Tempe (~5%). I feel for them, challenging times ahead for the company.

Well, this thread accurately called it 30 days in advance
Yep, Tempe laid me off yesterday! I have plenty of work, stellar reviews. Didn't matter!
If you have the right last name you’re probably safe from layoffs here. Nepotistic group think is pervasive throughout the company, especially their facilities and security departments.
Big layoff today, looking like 4-5%
Viasat’s fiscal year end is 3/31, and even with the sale of their TDL division, the company is struggling. This move was hinted at during an all-hands meeting by Mark D, so it’s not a total surprise. Of course, it still sucks completely, and from the people I’ve talked to from my area who were impacted, it was NOT handled well - but knowing the person making the calls, I’m not even remotely surprised. That guy has no empathy whatsoever. Total narcissist and sociopath - who is, of course, a senior director because he manages up so well and is so good at appropriating credit for others work. Why THOSE people don’t get let go is one of life’s cosmic mysteries, and one can only pray that karmic payback is a real thing.

I got laid off and honestly I’m ok with it. The leadership I was working under sucked major co-k and didn’t know how to give a damn about their employees. Bunch of “yes men” and “yes women” playing as puppets for people that actually do know a thing or two. Viasat as a company/culture/family wasn’t bad in my opinion, always felt like home.
I just got an e-mail for a meeting to discuss "today's events". I figured... Googled lay offs at Viasat. Sucks.
I was laid off today. I had plenty of work to do but if the company doesn't have enough money to cover the number of employees, things like this happen. At least they provide a decent amount of severance pay.
Was laid off today after many years of success and nothing but good reviews. Suck it Viasat.
David schmoke from ViaSat just called me. I was laid off Monday March 27th 2023 after 10+ years of employment
Fu-k ViaSat
Confirmed - I just got laid off. Many more to follow from Carlsbad.
Confirmed, was let go today
Happening today. I should know. Was affected :(
Trust me, HR does not “live for this” and they sure are not smiling. I can see the stress taking a toll on our local P&C people. They’ll probably get hit hard too. Everyone is doing more with less.
Anyone else stressing out about the layoffs? I wish they'd just get it over with because its making me a nervous wreck.
I don’t think HR ever enjoys this kind of event. Anyone if non-US locations will be impacted?
Tempe Engineering will get hit hard
you can always tell by the size of the smile on the HR people... they live for this.
Makes sense. March 31 is the end of the financial quarter and they probably want the cost of the layoffs to be in this quarter.
Overheard from senior executive today
Do you know if the competition like Hughes is doing anything similar?
What's your source? Did you overhear it? Is it because managers have been instructed to finish development by end of March?
