If anything is going to finally get me to quit and leave this wretched place it will be RTO. There is no need for it. None. Our productivity is just as good if not better currently. I can't understand why they would want to mess with that. I have no intention to go in and I'll start sending applications out on Monday. I don't even care if they fire me for it. I'll deal with it. But I'm not returning to the office.

USAA no longer cares about employee satisfaction. We need to create a day to cancel our policy’s and pull accounts to demonstrate our displeasure as members. 5-1-23 sounds good?
This is not exclusive to USAA yall. I mean I get it, I wanna stay in pj's too but this is an industry wide issue that MANY CEOs are working through, RTO cause no one wants to come back. A good old Google search will show you that you may be hybrid in other jobs too. Good luck to you all!
Wayne wants everyone back in the office. Directors and other leaders are already being pressured or required to come in as an example to everyone else. Coming into the office is seen as a sign of “engagement” and of “leadership” these days. If you don’t come in, there is an increased risk of lower performance ratings, raises, bonus, lack of promotions, and most likely even more of a chance of being let go in the promised upcoming rounds of layoffs.
I was hired remote two years ago and am in an IT director role. Nothing has come down the line indicating RTO yet, please reply if you think even positions hired for remote like product managers and owners will be called back?
The writing is on the wall. They are slowly creating attrition where they can to avoid layoffs/severance. They have an agenda to get people in to justify the expenses for all these buildings/building services. Those of us that are remote should refresh resumes. They don’t care if you are a high performer as they have a return to office quota to meet.
They also cut back anyone with a geo differential and sold it off as no change. Now it’s like a one time sign on bonus versus the % on new salary base every year. Sad thing is no one really realizes it. Since most offices get low or no geo differences due to the MSA they are in, it’s a good way to further punish remote workers in other areas.
They are going to lose all the experienced people they brought in. Even though they are still a hot mess operationally and regulatory wise. I wonder if the regulators are aware of their cr---y strategy to pretty much quiet fire their experienced remote employees they brought in. TBH if they had the talent they needed locally they probably wouldn’t be still trying to claw out of their mess.
I really like the benefits there but the trust factor is gone. My old company did some sucky things but at least they were up front about it.
There is no way in he-l I would return to that cesspool. I already laid it out that I would need my base salary to double for me to return to the office my manager pretty much picked up that if they don’t pay me enough I am out.
USAA is the epitome of a company with people making stupid decisions. They keep empty buildings while cost cut in all other areas, including layoff. Why is anyone still working for this sinking ship? There may be other sinking ships out there but at least they are run by much smarter people whom you could at least respect.
I mean, they need to have someone in the Plano offices. It’s a ghost town, and they are paying $$ for the buildings
It's not just USAA tech engineers who are a fraction of others. It's EVERYONE at USAA who is a fraction of the talent and skills of others in these other better companies. Yet the managers at USAA evaluate their people as if they were working with elite caliber. It's so stupid and hypocritical. Most EMG managers at USAA are dense, ignorant, and unqualified.
Yes, every remote role will be reviewed. And yes, every hybrid role will be forced to go in 3-4 days a week. Even if today your manager says you don't need to because your dept is a little more flexible, it's going to change. You should be smart enough to read the tea leaves that it is coming.
Lat3r and good riddance.Good luck to people quitting in this economic market; competing among the tech elites who were let go from companies like Google,Meta Facebook, SalesForce.Do not pretend the lazy IT engineers from usaa are better that those tech engineers, usaa engineers are like 25 percentage the caliber of those tech giant engineers. Anyone thinking otherwise are ignorant and simply ostriches.
I called it out last year they'd force RTO and people didn't believe me. My manager pretty much said they predict everyone will be 100% in office within a year and anyone that had a remote role is going to have it reviewed. EMG is so out of touch to think we are better in office vs remote. I think they want to trim the numbers and are wanting to see people quit.
If ThE bIg shOts caN do It so CAN yOU!!!
Seriously, we are all together on this. It will be quiet quitting season very soon….
