Thread regarding AIG (American Intl Group Inc.) layoffs

Thinking of applying to corebridge

Hello, I'm thinking about applying to the PRT team as an actuarial student at Corebridge. But I'm abit afraid now looking at all these layoffs posts. Does anyone know if the PRT team is stable or not?

There are much better places to work than this company. Everyday you wake up with question when will I be laid off. Not worth the effort.

Watch out for HR on the site like the other poster said. No team in AIG is stable, but the biggest issue with joining any team is the risk that one or more of your coworkers or boss will be one of those people that seem to thrive most at AIG, narcissists, bullies, incompetents, or more than one of the above.

Be wary of false posters ( i.e. HR) on the site

If you are young - take the job. AIG is a great career stepping stone and you can easily use your time here to build your resume, make connections, and get more money from your next job in the future.

I recently started at AIG (I am also early in my career) and think it’s great. I am already thinking about my next job a year-ish from now and am seeing great exit options from similarly-situated colleagues.

To me it seems that many of the disdain on this forum comes from longtime, disgruntled employees. Which I respect. But personally, I was never planning to climb the corporate ladder here or retire here etc…

I’ve found recently that newcomers have to be paid much more than the stated ranges or else they wont accept the offers. To be fair though, this is true for many companies right now because there are many more actuarial jobs than actuaries right now…Thank you LDTI, IFRS 17, VM21, VM20, NYDFS, and PE owned reinsurers!

Majority of the good and experienced actuaries left last year in CRBG. The Actuary pay range is extremely low in CRBG compared to the industry. You will get tons of work waiting for you with the low pay. The only good thing CRBG can offer is the inflated ’fake’ title which can help your next resume a little bit.

I’d say that being an actuary at CRBG seems to be pretty stable and the actuarial headcount is increasing. There are several actuaries who have been with L&R/CRBG for a long time. It seems that the PRT team is doing well.

Kudos to you for finding this website before making your decision. I have to say that some of the posts are hysterical but fat too many are true, Current CEO boasts about outsourcing 10k employees and one of his predecessors famously told all employees that they shouldn't expect to retire from AIG.
