Thread regarding USAA layoffs

Why does the USAA Board of Directors tolerate Wayne Peacock?

Wayne has totally destroyed the internal culture and is actively dismantling the IT infrastructure that drives this company. He brought in Amala who is essentially just a hatchet lady. She has brought zero ideas on how to service our members. Wake up USAA Board before it's too late.

This post from a month ago makes sense to me now, thanks OP. I just can't figure out who's to blame for all the chaos going on now, Wayne or Amala or both. I guess both. I admired Wayne for a very long time, for how eloquent and effortless he speaks, but I might have been blind? Saw from the news that he doubled his pay last year while most of us are struggling.

Why does the Board tolerate Wayne Peacock? LOL you are assuming that the USAA Board of Directors is a group of competent people. Have you looked at their background? Most of them are military people - what do they know about running a real business? The military is NOT a business. It has no concept of profitability.

Amala was not brought in to deliver a futuristic vision to drive USAA forward. She was brought in to cut costs. Same with Clyde the Claims Officer at P&C. Clyde is another one with no futuristic vision and was brought in for cost cutting.

The problem is - everytime they cut costs or people, the sr leaders saw that the work was still at the same levels. So the sr leaders assume there must be more room to cut if after trims, work was still at the same levels. After this huge layoff, there will be likely more. Amala wants to look like a hero to Wayne and the Board by showing that she was able to cut costs and still keep service levels.

Since today is payday, I’m guessing there will be a lot of resignations being delivered to leaders.

I received a call at 6:00 am today saying my contract was ended effective yesterday. As a contractor I am used to being stepped on. As a USAA member since 1977 it was a bit more painful. I had heard they were going to cut contractors, but I expected a bit more of a warning than a call saying you were terminated yesterday.

The whole organization is so dysfunctional. If our military behaved the way that USAA does we’d be speaking another language and using a different alphabet.

But then again, given The current state of events that seems possible too.
