Thread regarding Mattel Inc. layoffs

Nobody should be shocked or surprised

If you didn't expect layoffs to happen after the pandemic bo-m in sales went down, I don't know what to tell you. Every single one of those affected should have had a plan B and C ready in case something like this happened. There was no doubt layoffs would happen, the only question was when.

Yeah buddy, way to say “it’s entirely your fault the execs at the company you’ve devoted years of your life to but have no actual power over made a bunch of stupid and reckless decisions and then used you as collateral when it didn’t work, protecting their already wealthy hides at your expense.”

If you’re so much smarter than us, why are you wasting your breath here?? Go and thrive at your plan B and C!

Plan B and Plan C? Like you have an extra job waiting for you just in case? The only exception is to be independently wealthy and then you wouldn't be working in the first place!

I was laid off after 33 years...over 20 of which was in the IP group in the Law Department. I didn't think I needed a plan B and C. As Ynon always says... Mattel is "an IP driven company" and yet 3 long time, dedicated, experienced employees in the IP group (3 of 9!!) were let go. I guess protecting the brands isn't that important after all...

"Agree, there are still lots of jobs out there in consumer products and the support disciplines like packaging. Plan B and C are quickly developed. Definitely want to see the current group of executives be shown the door. Go see D. Wad……. at Spin. They seem to have an ex Mattel loser crew running that show. They are on 2nd or 3rd generation Ex Mattel as_hats."

Uncalled for. You're talking about people who have worked together for years knowing one another's reputation for excellence and top notch deliverables. Don't forget most of them left after the layoffs years back and are established at spin unlike the fools that went to MGA or Hasbro to have their process broken down, used for a few months and then fired. Those hats that you mention may be your saviors.

After the layoffs (I was one of the older workers, #age_discrimination) it hasn’t helped the stock price. I’m hoping the investors see through the films, and bad tv shows they are hyping.
Films didn’t save Hasbro, Mattel is going down the same path. Films like Transformers, GI Joe, Battleship, Josie and the pu--y cats, didn’t translate to sales or bring back old properties. Masters is a great example, the shelves are stocked full of MOTU.
American Girl, Mega, Fisher Price are all floundering under the watchful eye of Mattel that only knows how to sell Hot Wheels this year.
Time will tell, but I think I got off the sinking boat early.

Ok, out of curiosity in this economy, what’s your plan B and C?
How about better long term thinking by those in charge vs what has become standard practice and absolute morale destruction.

Really no one cares, they just want to see some upper management clean up.
