Thread regarding Mattel Inc. layoffs

“Mass Layoffs…using someone’s livelihood to balance the books…

this is not a meritocracy, we don’t care how hard or how long you have worked here, if we miss our numbers and you happen to fall on the wrong side of the spread sheet, I’m sorry but we cannot guarantee employment…in other words we come to work everyday afraid.”

crybabies. Get your CV together, save high res images of your best work constantly and be prepared. Mattel lost its luster quite a while back. The magic of the toy industry is long gone. Hate to be another “old fa-t”, but it’s the truth. the only passion our bosses have is for appeasing stockholders. Appealing to children and putting a smile on their faces is so far down their list of importance it’s sad. Just be vigilant with your portfolio & cv. keep them updated and constantly add to them. become that monster designer that everyone wants to hire. be the rockstar. above all don’t limit yourself to just toys. you can design anything.

Nah they’re never gonna see themselves as part of any problem. @ctfi+1lnKf79P is just another miserable old fa-t looking for a scapegoat.

Why don’t you take a hard look at yourself and realize that you are part of the problem last poster! Do you have any idea where the quote from the original post came from? I didn’t think so.
“Curb stomp”, really, such an intelligent use of vocabulary to get your point across.
Unfortunately, irrational thinking like yours coupled with complete ignorance only adds to the problem vs having the ware with all to suggest anything of substance.

balancing the books wit someone's livelihood? Give it a rest. No one is forcing you to work there and they are not obliged to keep you. Its a work for hire situation and you can be terminated without reason or notice which is what you sign up for when you get hired. You dopey millenials and generation z shmucks need to get a grip and find another company or occupation. I know I know, "waaaaaaaah, we went to school for this!" Get over it. I'm an x'er and we would curb stomp any of your whiny as--s into next week if you started this cr-p in our presence.

If you read some reviews on Glassdoor, you’ll see that people were “highly encouraged” to write positive ones. And if you want to leave a honest one, you’ll need to give away your title, so no one does for fear of retribution. It’s like the “best companies” ratings, all BS. The only one that does count is Fortune 100, and HR doesn’t dare try it anymore cause we won’t make it. LOL

I'm surprised there aren't more scathing reviews on glassdoor.

It's a bit of a catch 22 situation; presumably the employees with the highest salaries are either those who have been around the longest or have demonstrated their value convincingly enough over the years that they received larger than average raises. So they're either a valuable, hardworking employee or they're a dedicated employee who's been with the company for a long time (who also do a good job since they're still employed after many years). But they're also the ones who get targeted in layoffs since the whole point of a layoff is to dramatically cut costs.

You're sort of damned if you do and damned if you don't; either be commensurately paid for your time and find yourself a target or be underpaid and be more likely to avoid a layoff so you can continue being under-compensated for your time. Either way, you find yourself is a pretty bad situation.

It's time to start sending in reviews for the managers and above. Like the time to google lady lead us down smart HW car path. This guy leading us down the NFT path.

that’s only partially true. It mainly comes down to how best to meet a specific dollar amount in reducing operating costs. For layoffs, it’s salaries. way too many of the best, most talented and dedicated people have been laid off over the years.

problem is the people up top are making the cuts. it's their leadership, their decision, and they make the most money. most of them are self promoters. they're the ones that should be cut.

Layoffs at Mattel have always been the opportunity to clear house of your troublemakers. Everyone writes their own reviews, their supervisors just sign and send them on, regardless of what they say. When it’s time to make cuts, managers are asked to provide a list of names, and it’s their chance to get rid of people they don’t like.
