Thread regarding Intel Corp. layoffs

RIP Dan Foster -- a victim of Intel's hiring practice problems.

The big question is, was this just a simple oversight by HR in missing Derrick Simmons past criminal behavior (felony for as--ult with a deadly we-pon) during the hiring process? Or did they just turn a blind eye to it and if they did was the same process applied across the board to all candidates for hire?

Also, a speedy recovery wish for the other as--ult victim, Jaron WIlliams.

“Dan was a loving husband, father, son, and brother. Dan was with Intel for 22 years. This senseless act took a good man away from his loving family. He was the type of guy that would do anything for anyone...even somebody he didn't know. He would make you laugh and give you the shirt off his back. There are not enough words that describe the great person Dan was. It is devastating for our family, so many lives have been changed by this horrific act.”

Derek Simmons murmured Dan Foster and deserves to be punished to the fullest extent of the law. He should take responsibility for extinguishing the life of a loving father/husband, and for traumatizing Dan’s family, friends and coworkers, not to mention the damage he did to his own wife and family. He could have just walked out and quit his job, but instead he chose to commit mu---r. If Derek Simmons was just a “normal” “good” guy… why did he choose to bring we-pons to work then go brutally mu---r his teammate in the cafe in front of everyone? Yet, people on here feel compelled to defend him. Mu---r is illegal, regardless of stress level and employment status. No one deserves to get mu---red by their coworker for any reason period.

Current green badge employee, there’s a lot of rumors going around the work place. One of them being racial motivation but the bosses of the two guys said he would’ve shut that down if he saw it. Another rumor is that they bet money on the super bowl and simmons lost to foster that resulted in him snapping. No one knows for sure. Rumors also say that they were buddy’s until they weren’t and Simmons was going to transfer to a different position. My theory? It’s the toxic work environment, repetition, and constant exposure to toxic chemicals. Intel has some secrets.

We need to hear what specific changes to the following will be implemented to reduce the likelihood of another similar episode:

  1. Security
  2. Early conflict intervention
  3. Background check and hiring practices

On campus safety is EVERY employee’s business.

I've worked out @Intel for years. Its a horrible place to work. Everyone there stabs each other in the back constantly. The saftey programs are cr-p and only in place to satisfy the insurance companies. Intel only is concerned with profit. They do not care who they hire, the so called background checks are BS. If they need something built, they will hire anyone,as long as the schedule is kept they dont care who builds it.
The plant itself is toxic and overbuilt. Its an engineering nightmare. Abandoned equipment and supporting systems is everywhere. The epa is paid off as the site is a superfund candidate.
Mental health...no one cares. Everyone sweeps stuff under the rug knowing that this to shall pass. Make no waves, advance up the ladder.
As a contactor I can attest you are treated like garbage. Blue badges are supreme, green badges are treated like garbage. Sc--w them, refuse to work there.

@1nql Hopefully, details of any workplace dynamics that led to the tragedy come to light and are not blocked by company efforts trying to spin a narrative beneficial to the company. If Intel has created a high stress, toxic work environment in their factory and is knowingly doing little or nothing about it, then that opens up another angle of culpability for Intel. Especially if employees had raised concerns that were ignored.

I didn't know either of them personally but I've heard the Intel employees bi--hing about the company. Most Intel employees that I know hate their jobs as much as I hated being in the military. I still went to work and I still got out with an honorable - doesn't mean there weren't times when I could have choked the life out of my coworkers.

That being said I'm a family man and violence is never a good reaction - only a defensive response when warranted. I have no doubt that what these people have said about Simmons was true - he was probably a good guy. Look at the sadness in his eyes, and you can see right through to the pain inside. Clearly this man was dealing with a lot - and I don't think Foster deserved what happened to him, but to think there was THAT much anguish there rings true with what I've overheard of their workplace culture. It's sad and why I will happily stay a contractor, and will never agree to work for Intel, no matter how much they offer me. They don't care about their employees like my company does. It's a tragedy, and this was the result.

Derrick Simmons is a good, normal guy when I knew him for years. He was good at his job. Some type of workplace tension must have taken place that made the man snapped. He is not a deranged person that we can just sweep under the rug as the reason for this horrific act. That is something that Intel will have to answer on its handling of any prior incidents.

As a previous employee, I agree that management turns a blind eye to issues on the floor!! Never addresses the issues1 Then something happens and the employees are to blame! My heart goes out to Dan Foster's family!

I expect Intel to at least do the bare minimum to create a safe environment for myself and others. I can assure you a background check was performed and ignored. Probably due to diversity compliance. Now a good man is dead. I can only hope Dans family take legal action.

The big winners are work from home, do less, risk less, more money, more free time. What is the incentive to not work from home? Free fruit and Soda, TP? Getting bludgeoned to d$&th? Hmmm.

Thank you for saying the victims name - Dan Foster. Say his name Intel! DAN FOSTER!

I heard people in OTF forbidden from doing just that, are you serious?

This SHOULD call into question active management of employees every bit as much as hiring practices.

Simmons worked at Intel for over a decade without incident. Something had to have happened to send him over the edge with such a violent, premeditated act. No excuse for his response to it, but I’d be willing to bet BIG bucks there was some sort of stimulus that could and should have been addressed by management long before it came to this.

Interesting that someone would give this a thumbs down. I guess they're just fine with violent felons being hired and putting others at risk
