Thread regarding Intel Corp. layoffs

Question to EU folks about the pay cut consent.

Firstly, don't pay attention to the US id--ts who think the rest of the world has to be set up just like here, e.g. re: the EU pay cut consent requirement. But a question: in return to Intel not being able to unilaterally cut anyone's pay over there, what do you guys get to give up for this? Like, do you have to clock in, track vacation time, anything else like that in return? Here in the US 'at will' employment kind of cuts both ways: an 'at will' pay cut can usually rather easily be addressed with an 'at will' work cut.

@OP+1lh2ZzWa People are id--ts because they don’t know the labor laws of some far flung country that is minimally impactful to their life?

Does that make you an id--t for not know the peculiarities of the tax and labor laws in Louisiana’s parishes?

Keep calm and be sure to reduce those Intel work hours, everyone.

There is some variance between different European countries, but even in high cost ones pay is generally significantly less for the same grade and same position. Taxes are higher too. There is a hidden part of the tax as well which company pays on top of the gross.

Cost of living is hard to compare due different countries and even different locations within a single one. US side included since not everywhere is SF.

@1rqz+1lh2ZzWa White collar crime might be the only way out. Especially if you can get the money out of the country. Do a little networking with “creative” high-powereds who have compromised morals, and put that stash to use to supercharge your Cayman account after you’re discharged with a well-rounded basketball, set of pecs, and a black book full of crooked contacts.

Who’s got that Office Space code laying around?

There is no consent required as they not asking anyone in Europe for pay reduction. Only effects USA

US taxation levels tend to be underestimated. In many locales the marginal income tax rate can easily top 50%. Add all the other cr-p, and it starts looking not much different from Europe.

And the cost of living is often simply not comparable. A sh---y apartment in a cardboard building somewhere like San Jose is easily $5K a month while sending your kid to a half-decent private school, lest he join a gang in the public one, is $30K a year. Add the perpetual US health care costs crisis, and that half of the pay is long gone.

We get paid less than half of what you get in the US in comparable roles, and even less after taxes.
