RTO is a class issue. It hit me the other day that one of the reasons I have such a negative reaction to RTO is because it’s about the power dynamics - not employer/employee but Elite vs Worker (look yourself up in workday ‘Worker’). The benefits of RTO are material to an Elite group of people who do not rely on a paycheck to live. The costs of RTO are fully borne by a group of people who need a paycheck to pay bills, support families, eat. An Elite group demanding Workers go to an office when there is 0 business reason is just a misappropriation of power. This Elite group will force Workers to do what they want because they know Workers actually need a paycheck. I don’t have the luxury of leaving my job because it’s just not convenient anymore (like the CEO did at his last gig). This has nothing to do with actual work that needs to be done. Being forced to do something just because it makes someone else feel more powerful and benefits them exclusively leaves a bitter taste in your mouth.

Return to Office
What us RTO?
Waaaagh
My whole department is remote except for the people who live in NYC. They also make 40% more than the rest of us.
I will never go back to a corporate office
this is what happens when the economy implodes:

Jane gets a pay raise. Well played Jane. well played.
There are large tax breaks if companies require employees to be in office more than 50% of the time. Companies are looking to get every dime they can right now. When this economy implodes, it's going to be ugly.
List your SOEID and then we will believe you. SOEID required for every post
I dont agree with that but if you are used to wfh then post to a role that offers that. Banking is office work always was and always will be. I for one enjoy generating ideas at the water cooler with colleagues. I was able to reduce the risk in the division because of this!!
RTO sucks, plain simple. Does nothing but control you and feed you ridiculous narratives.
You could say your city to help narrow down to help us believe you and so I am sorry I still dont. The power play is nonsense on rto. The true power play comes in review and bonus time.... thanks Hammerin Hank
I forecast a slump in productivity across the board if RTO becomes more heartedly enforced. As for me, on the days I go into the office, when I leave, that’s it. I’m done. I don’t remote back in to finish up work or work extra or prepare for the next day. You make me go into the office, no problem, on those days 8 hours is all you get. No more, no less.
Meanwhile I’ll be trolling the job boards for positions that are 100% remote.
While there will be a differences of opinions on whether RTO is good or bad, it does not mean that their post is necessarily wrong. It very well may be a power play.
Now on the ask of sharing more details as proof of employment, now why would they do that. Why would they provide details so that they can be narrowed down and retaliated against for voicing their opinion. That is a very st*pid ask. If you think that retaliation does not take place in the company on such things, then you are very naive or you do such things yourself and are playing d-mb.
You are lucky just to go back now as most groups especially in the east coast went back this past summer. My question to is do you really work for the company? If so please share some details so that we all will believe you. Thanks Hammerin Hank
