2023 "Merit" Increases

I've been made aware that I will receive a 6.5% raise for 2023. While that may sound decent on the surface, I need to factor in the inflation rate/cost of living increase is also about 6.5%!! Therefore, this doesn't seem to be reflective of my performance but rather a blanket increase based on today's economy.

After expecting a true salary adjustment based on my strong 2022 performance, I am rather discouraged by this news and am starting to feel undervalued by the company.

Can anyone share what they have received? Am I crazy to think this way?

I get told year after year that someone outperformed me and kept me from exceeds expectations overall, even though 4 of the 6 categories were exceeds expectations. I get a better than the rest at 4%, but have been told at the cost of reduction to meets expectations people.

Wow, what I wouldn't give to have a 6.5% raise, come over to the stagecoach where I haven't had a raise since I started in 2015 and most who do are lucky to get 1-2%. Where EVERY bonus I have received has been far less than I was promised in my offer letter despite my excellent rating each year and being a senior person in audit and having to do more and more work as others leave and aren't replaced and if they are they're with people in India who we have to redo the work of... looks like I need to come to USAA.

People are about to lose their jobs in an upcoming layoff, and here you are complaining about a 6.5% merit increase. You need to get your head screwed on right! You act like an overentitled spoiled child whining for more when others are about to lose their livelihood. That person to be laid off could be you.

Yes, you are a giant douche to complain about 6.5% because your boss took it from someone else to give it to you. Someone else in your team got a 2% or lower. There is a limited pool of money for merit increases, and it's a zero-sum game. Merit and bonus are a limited pool of money. For you to get a 100% bonus, someone else took the hit and got 80-90%. These days that means the 90% person wasn't liked/favored, and they gave the money to someone's pet.

Are you complaining about 6.5% raise? All these years, I never got more than 4% though being a good performer. Mostly 3%

Well, its only a matter of time when inflation eases and prices go down. Typical business cycle. Eventually, your increase will benefit you. Fwiw, i got 3%, but i am at the top of my pay grade and was a high met expectations…

The merit pool was 4% this year. 6.5% is almost unheard of. That’s the opposite of being undervalued as your boss took that extra 2.5% from others to give to you.

I know people that got 2% as money was shifted to others. So yeah. You’re crazy to be complaining.
