Thread regarding Intel Corp. layoffs

Morale improvement

Despite the hiring freeze in many companies, the best people are still leaving here. Two of my colleagues recently left.

I think it's high time that the management tries to improve morale, which is very low at this point, although I don't know what can realistically be done to improve morale here?

There were key folks that left that will be very difficult to replace , if not darn near impossible .
I really don’t think there was any thought given to what their role was in the grand scheme of things.
Someone was just looking at payroll numbers and the people that supervised them didn’t have the brains or blls. to address it properly .

Some parts of this company are going to self destruct under delusional and authoritarian management who think whipping harder on the remaining staff will somehow deliver us to the promised land. It’s happening even as I type this.

it's possible they dont want morale to improve. that is's possible they want people to quit and move on. That's less expensive both from a legal standpoint (layoffs might result in a lawsuit against the company) and financial one (don't have to give them an exit package)

The best thing ELT can do to improve morale is to adopt an communicate a strategy that smart employee can rally behind... The problem here is that there is no viable strategy and so morale will suffer. You could break up the company and outsource manufacturing but that isn't very se-y.

I recently had a 1:1 with my manager and she said to me, "I've often wondered if it would be worth taking a pay cut to leave Intel. Now that I have to take a pay cut to stay at Intel, the answer is clear."

Morale has been low since ACT2016. Several best performers in my team left within one year. I can't see how the management can improve morale now with the even bigger lay-offs.

Let's see the smartest people in your group left. And it's been happening for many years now. Tell me what happens to a organization when all the best people and above average people leave? I know, overtake competitors who are 2-2.5 generations ahead in technology in record time. Intel logic in their products and their people is broken.

Having Pat reduce his salary to 1$ would be a start. Having ELT take some responsibility for their mistakes instead of blaming everything on macroeconomic headwinds would help. Finally, telling people transparently about the layoffs - numbers, schedule, and impact, would go a long way in reestablishing trust. Last but not least, tell people when they can expect to get their salary cuts reinstated.
