Thread regarding IBM layoffs

IBM says it's been running 'AI supercomputer' since May but chose now to tell the world

It is also notable that IBM chose to use x86
processors rather than its own Power 10 chips,
especially as these were touted by Big Blue as
being ideally suited for memory-intensive
workloads such as large-model AI inferencing.

The buried lede. The message for Power's future is clear. Thanks for supporting the team, AK.

Power... another thing that is going away (abandoning) at IBM... when will that stop? Never... well, it is will stop when IBM is going to be no more!

IBM and Samsung have already done their collaboration

Sigh. Having a research supercomputer for AI doesn't mean you're AI. They've proven that by nearly totally abandoning Watson publicly.

This implies the Telum chip has won the architecture race when it comes to “enterprise” architecture, and that Power 10 is going to be absorbed. It was only a matter of time, as IBM couldn’t afford to keep both architectures going. (Not enough volume for Samsung) The even more interesting piece of info on this announcement is scaleout power has been caught by Intel, and is not a player. Goodbye power it’s been nice to know ya.
