Purpose of surveys

I know of many people who, like me, never answer the survey honestly. Probably even those at the top know that most are dishonest in their answers. So is there any point in doing those surveys or are we just wasting our time?

There is no point to the survey. Honestly, so much personnel has left this company and what little is left (here) will not help or change the new company focus. If you said something on the survey to replace "A" with "B"; upper management is not going to jump on your suggestion and fix A with B. If you complain about problems in your ORG and if that problem requires money, for example hiring more staff. The company is not going to open up the bank account and do what an employee is asking them to do. Granted, they could research the complaint for validity but that's not going to happen overnight. In 6 months there will be another survey. Just like there was (2) last year and the year before. Plus, I believe everything is being reorganized under the new CEO. Probably the worst time to survey your ORGs of you plan on restructuring.

I've heard this from others. I never understood the reason. Why would anyone waste their time filling out the survey with bogus answers? Just don't complete the survey. Assuming that folks are giving positive answers to questions that they really feel that negative answers are deserved. All this has ever done is reinforce and reaffirm the company's failed leadership teams and their failed policies, which have resulted in no merit increases, RIF after RIF, moral that's in the toilet, reorg after reorg, and $2.39 per share stock price.
Let me tell ya, if the survey isn't anonymous and negative answers were "frowned upon" I would have been let go a LONG time ago.
I encourage everyone to answer the ESS honestly or not at all.

The surveys are a waste of time unless you are in management. Union workers have set pay and rules to follow. A person should try for other positions if they are interested. What if you say something good about your manager and the higher ups don't like that?
