Thread regarding USAA layoffs

Tamla Oates-Forney needs to be fired ASAP

The current return to office policy is a nightmare and is at her direction. She clearly isn’t qualified for the role she fills and HR has gone from bad to worse. There has not been one good thing to come from her or HR. It’s pretty pathetic that employees find out more about internal rules and policies from media outlets than USAA executives. Not to mention they’ve been silent since this fiasco arose and are just sitting around pretending like it doesn’t exist. Terrible management at its finest.

@21nyx+1lZKT1j8, since you left under Pat, you really have no idea how bad Tamla is. Take Pat and multiply by about 10. What’s worse, most of the good people in HR when Pat was in place — the ones who would try to keep her from being her worst self, or try to soften her worst directives — are gone now, too. The “HR Mafia” or the HRBPs and a few of the other HR EMGs got permission, under Tamla, to be THEIR worst selves. HRBPs at USAA have always been Management fixers; malevolent thugs who will do whatever EMG wants, even if it’s unfair…even if it’s improper…even if it’s illegal. Under Tamla, they’ve come in to their own. No stopping them now! It’s a nightmare.

@21utn+1lZKT1j8 I left USAA under Pat and completely agree. She is/was a despicable, vile, and generally horrendous leader.

She got up during a Town Hall or Employee Meeting and cried crocodile tears, blaming MSRs for bad MSAT scores, claiming that "our members deserve better." In reality, the MSRs were using under-powered machines that was so filled with bloatware that everything they did took forever.

On top of that, something about her gives off Patrick (Patricia?) Bateman vibes. There was no life or humanity behind her eyes. No personality. No care/empathy. I genuinely think she might be on the spectrum with how she communicated and how seemingly unable she was to "read the room." (No offense to those on the spectrum, I wouldn't want to be associated with her either.) It was like every single time she spoke, she ended up with her foot in her mouth as she said some ridiculous, id--tic, or just plain heartless thing.

And that's just how she communicated. That's not to mention the benefits she cut and the contributions she made to USAA's declining morale.

She’s WPs favorite head cheerleader. At the last all employee meeting she was the one who always started the clapping after WP would say something. You could tell the majority of us there were not happy with what was implied from WP. But she would start clapping then someone next to her then a HR crony from the other side of the front row would and then the crowd.

The former CHRO was really heartless and close to evil. When she finally flew off in her broom I was hopeful we would get a better one that actually cared about the employees. But the new one said “hold my espresso and watch how it’s done.”

If by her “style” you mean that under her HR will always, always, always find a way for EMG to be right, then no…I don’t like her style any more than I like her actions. Let’s face it; you can have audio, video, and eyewitness testimony from four former Popes and the ghost of Lincoln on your side, all proving you are 100% right and the HR team under her leadership will still say you’re wrong. Did they forget to cover HILS in her NEO class?

Whether you like Tamla's style or not, it's silly to think these big changes are her decisions. She is doing exactly what she is told to do by Wayne.

Tamla Oates-Forney destroyed the culture at Waste Management too. She creates giant messes, toxic work environments and when she's done, she simply moves on to the next organization. Clueless Wayne, his failed big bank executives, and the blind folded board of directors are so determined to make USAA "woke" and ultra LGBTQ+ that they aren't looking for talent, they are hiring for optics. Serving the military and their families has become a side gig for USAA, but their plan is back firing and the once great USAA with member relation rates in the 90 percent plus range is slowly sinking. USAA is now no better than any of the big banks / big insurance companies. Sad state of affairs.

I heard through the grapevine that she is extremely unprofessional.

I don’t like here and she’s been a disaster. That being said, accommodations are being processed very fast (2 days) and almost all are being approved. Just remember that JAR is not the same as FMLA. It’s not a protection. Read the fine print.

For military spouses, 100% of exceptions are being approved (for those outside of 60 mile radius).

Seems like she needs a good lesson in HR. Her linkedin profile reeks of issues. I would not hire her.

The whole leadership team stinks, what horrible toxic mess this company has become.

Her “HOT” motto of describing herself and leadership style (honest, open, transparent) is laughable. The dumpster fire she created with RTO is embarrassing and we haven’t heard a word from her. So much for honest, open, transparent. Total hypocrite. Talk is cheap and so it’s TO-F.

I’ve heard many employees are having problems with the accommodations requests and HR simply isn’t responding to them. More reason why Tamla needs to go. Eventually, someone is going to sue USAA because it’s illegal to deny people reasonable accommodations if justified. Having to go through the process again is even more proof of how poorly HR is run and is more worried about micromanaging badge swipes and making life he-l for employees. She is extremely unprofessional for someone at an EVP and CHRO level and also has made remarks that are offensive but followed it with “this is not to come across as discriminatory”…the fact she is disclosing that after statements should imply what you’re saying is discriminatory. Low class and extremely unprofessional from someone in HR and the CHRO

100% agree, as 10+ year employee. I feel like transitioning to hybrid after being hired as permanent remote wouldn’t have happened without her, and why am I struggling so much to get a remote employee exception as a current military spouse all of the sudden?! I was remote before COVID.
