Now, more than ever, you can see how this company is taking advantage of the fact that some employees can't find a new job in the current economy.
But will they gain anything in the long run?
When it becomes easier to find a new job, there will be a mass exodus from here.

Well the go get another job. Stop complaining and do something.
I'm so sick of being here. Drastically underpaid & unappreciated.
The economy is fine. You just chose to stay in a dog cr-p business.
It's all about networking. Talk to others, join professional organizations, anything you can do, you need to do. Don't become complacent. McDonald's is terminating a lot of their corporate employees this week (they were told to work from home so they can be let go while at home). It's coming. Don't become a statistic. You have an opportunity to leave, do it. Pearson used to care about us, but AB and the whole ELT only care about lining their pockets.
I regret staying as long as I did.
When the raises got down to 1%, then 0%, I should have split.
A few years ago, my manager lied during a review that I did not meet expectations. I exceeded all my goals, learned new skills, and documented everything. It didn't matter. No raise and no bonus.
I tried to run an appeal through HR. That was pointless. I know everybody out there is saying, "Why would you do a thing like that? You should never talk to HR." That's true, but I had everything documented, so what did I have to lose? If they canned me for going to HR then I'd hire a wrongful termination lawyer. I'm amazed I lasted as long as I did after that incident. I'm sure they earmarked me for layoff.
If you're still with Pearson, please keep looking for something else. I know it's a pain. Contact a resume consultant and spend the money. Talk to recruiters in your area and establish a relationship.
So true, I feel sorry for people that are handcuffed due to their region/location.
