I got permission to move to a different state a few months ago. We bought property and are getting ready to move. Now I’m hearing (from a coworker) that anthem can lower your pay based on where you live? Is this true? I have been here for many years, and this is the first I’m hearing about it. I’ll be doing the same exact job.

Dump this steaming pile and look for a real job.
FYI, hr but no longer at Anthem. It’s not cost of living, it’s the cost of wages for a geographic area. Normally they do correlate, but in San Diego there is a high pool of candidates which keeps salaries below that of counties north of them.
Agree mgmt typically tries not to lower your pay, but it can be an option. Managers aren’t always aware of range in different locations. Like another mentioned, contact hr for info on pay range at your new location.
What a bunch of sneaky bs
Talk to HR or your manager. It may just mean they ' freeze' your salary , depending where you are on the scale.
I've moved state to state 3 times and even to different towns within states. Your pay is based on Zones. Ex. If where you live now is Zone 4 and where you're moving is Zone 3, Zone 3 is less salary. Typically the Zones have stayed the same for me, I hope they do for you too. That being said a friend of mine is a mgr and she said even if the other zone is lower pay they more than likely won't lower your salary, you probably just wouldn't get a pay increase depending on how much more you're making above MRP
Good luck!
Like I said in my original post (to the person saying I should have consulted my manager), I spoke to my manager months ago and she gave me the ok to move and didn’t mention anything about a possible pay cut.
Sorry … but you should have consulted your manager or better yet HR before even moving so there will be no surprises.
Yes, however if you are moving to an area of higher cost of living, you will not get an increase. They can opt to lower it though.
Yes they can. You can ask you manager what it is. Depends where u r going. Higher cost living to a lower cost. But manger will know !
