Thread regarding ViaSat Inc. layoffs

Huge pressure

I'm glad that there are those who took the layoff very well and even say that it brought them some kind of relief, but I'm still very worried about how long it will take me to find a new job. Despite the skills, it doesn't seem like it will be easy to get something better. I wish someone would convince me otherwise.

I’ve been through it a couple times. It’s never easy. Interviews are often biased for a person that fits criteria other than job skills. I’ve heard that a person knows whether s/he will hire you or not within 30 seconds. I don’t doubt it. Keep a positive attitude. It’s like fishing.

If I were you, I would start applying and getting interviews. It’s always good to check other opportunities out there even if your work is safe. Just good to know what is your skills’ market value is.

If you're a programmer or have hard techs ki-ls it shouldn't be that hard in the end. The San Diego Tech Group has been around for a few years as a local networking thing, I met the founder Claude a few years back shortly after it was formed and he's turned it into something very worth attending. Here's the link I use, I wouldn't doubt a more formal website exists now https://www.meetup.com/san-diego-tech-events/
