I received an email yesterday requesting a meeting to discuss "today's occurrences." I had a feeling that was code for something bad, and I was correct. My job was terminated.
It was difficult to swallow, especially since I still had a lot of work to handle. When a corporation cannot afford to keep all of its personnel, however, cuts must be made. On the plus side, they're providing adequate severance compensation.
However, I must say that the leadership team was abysmal. They didn't give a damn about their employees. Instead, they were a group of "yes men" and "yes women" acting as puppets for those who knew what they were doing.
The layoffs were substantial, affecting approximately 4-5% of the workforce. It's a great shame. Except for this last part, I've been with the company for 12 years and they've always treated me well.
I'm grateful for my time there, but it's time to move on and seek new opportunities. Please contact me if you know of any job openings in my field.
It's difficult to be laid off, but I'm trying to keep my head up and remain optimistic. I'm excited about the future and the prospects it will bring.
These layoffs have had an impact on more than just me. My heart goes out to my coworkers who were also laid off.

I'm using this as a chance to rethink my career ambitions and find out what's next. It's both terrifying and thrilling.
I'm going to take some time to unwind and decompress before resuming my job search.

Keep your strength and keep moving forward. We've got it.
