Thread regarding Belk layoffs

Response to Belk Outlet disaster

  • Belk Outlet concept has been a flop
  • Customers hate final sale policy
  • merchandise is lackluster (for the most part), a few good things here and there
  • Stores have not utilized all space, some are still partially empty
  • Customers shocked when the walk through front door and it looks like a thrift store
  • Store staffed with two clerks, and just one manger in the entire store
  • When are you closing? Is the question lots of customers are asking

@op+1. Our store is not an outlet but you just described what is going on except the no return policy. At any given time there 2 or 3 associates in the store and when the customers finally find a register open, all they want to do is complain about everything. And then they top it off with "Are you closing". And we are reduced to lying just like all the management.

Did other employees at the store receive a severance package? Outlets will only have 3 or 4 workers total at any given time.

At our “flagship”, we spent almost two weeks pulling, packing, and transferring over 50,000 units storewide to some yet to open outlet conversion In Tennessee while truck upon truck accumulated in an already backed up dock. With limited time and resources (personnel) the merchandise was scanned out and shoved tightly into incorrectly sized boxes with no plastic to minimize wrinkling. Just can’t even image the deplorable, trwisted and wrinkled condition that it will be in upon arrival and hanging on those long long thrift store H racks.
I wonder if the converted stores SMELL like your typical, dimly lit thrift store?
