Thread regarding Xerox Corp. layoffs

Jobs out there

I am happy for those who left this company and got a better opportunity. However, are people really finding new jobs so easily? Reading all these posts saying there are many better jobs out there makes me a bit depressed because I've been looking for a long time and haven't been able to get a new opportunity.

Xerox employees that are pre-Raider timeframe have marketable skills. Sometimes we take them for granted.

Hang in there. I was very disheartened when I left when a recruiter told me that I had no marketable skills. They had no idea what I did and had nothing comparable. It took me about 4 months of applying on my own, a revamp of my resume, and I was over 50 when I left. My old resume was what I used 20+ years prior. Things had changed. A lot. Applying for jobs online was completely foreign to me. Make sure you are putting keywords into your resume and/or cover letter to capture what they are listing as "requirements" for the job. If they use the word required, instead of preference, then they really want that. No one wants to read a 2-page resume. Keep it short. You can embellish when you get the interview. It's also better when you apply directly on company sites. It turns out that a lot of people are actually impressed that you worked for Xerox and also that you held a job for a long time. I miss the old Xerox and have not found the kind of camaraderie elsewhere but the people I work with now are great. Don't get discouraged.

It depends on the type of work you do. Also, be sure not to limit yourself to just the print industry.
