Why is Intel so stuck in the past?

I'm trying to understand what the reason is, is it that the leadership is lacking ideas or the changes that this company needs are considered too much of a risk? Perhaps some other reasons? Sometimes I feel like I'm wasting my time here.

Throw agile methods in. It will not change a Damm thing and add an extra 5-6 hours / week of overhead

5 or 6 years ago the PM crowd decided that things needed to be done on an "industry standard" timeline. Without changing any of the inefficient methods that previously took twice as long and with more (1.3-1.4x) the people. They are d-mb as he-l for doing this and they patted themselves on the back for bring everything to "industry standards" merely by creating a timeline. As an IC this is the number one cause of wheels falling off that I have seen. Other contributing factors include losing experienced employees.

There is a big resistance to change for sure. Are you getting a specific item done to the necessary quality in the most efficient way? Past methods could afford to be ineffecient.

Most Intel “leaders” have worked here forever. They have always been told to just follow the process because it worked for so long. They don’t know what works and what doesn’t. They are afraid to make changes because they will be blamed when the house of cards falls down. I never understood the obsession with copy exactly. To me it indicates a fundamental lack of understanding on how the process works. When they get it to work they just freeze the design and push it out to the VF. By freezing every attribute they have the critical subset captured. No one really knows how much they waste on replicating everything exactly instead of focusing on the attributes that really matter.

Intel management and technical leadership are all lifer charlatans. They have no new ideas, no vision and no strategy. All they can do is play the Intel game and hire their wives and cousins.

SO what is your complaint and do you have any solution? If not, go away troll. If it were easy, Intel would not exist. Like all mature companies, there will be time when it will meander and go away. Same are the fates of Nvidia and AMD.

Why because most of the BoD don’t understand the semiconductor industry and the ELT are all Intel old timers who don’t know how the rest of the world works.

The are stuck in the past and think the old ways will entitle them to glory. It’ll all come obvious in 2025
