Thread regarding State Farm Insurance layoffs

They want me to quit

I have a feeling that I'm being forced to quit. Too many things have happened in a short period for it to be a coincidence. I'm not sure what to do. I don't want to quit knowing there will be layoffs soon and miss out on severance, but I don't know that I'll have much of a choice.

They are likely squeezing folks so they can get as many as possible to leave to avoid severance and they may terminate you, even if you’re a good employee to get their severance group numbers down. Let them fire you and Collect unemployment if your state has it and find a better working environment. Take everything home now from your desk that is yours so if they walk you out of the building you have your personal files and stuff. No telling what they will box and mail to you later. They didn’t even let me go back for my purse. It was brought to me. After almost 30 years with the company and not far from severance. I’d thought about quitting a month before because of the stress and doing the work of 2-3 people. It all worked out for me in the end. I loved my job but the last five years before I left were crazy. Good luck and get contact info for coworkers now cause you may not get a chance later. There is life after SF. There are healthier work environments.

Unless you are a manager or higher, good luck with severance.

Like every mass hire, they'll have half quit within 6 months of becoming a cubicle occupant. And for good reasons.

What are these "things" that have happened that you are referring to that would drive you to quit?

There are no plans to layoff, however, they are planning a large claims hiring spree soon. like massive from what i hear, even to the point they are worried they wont have enough trainers.

I would just leave. better for both company and yourself.

If you really are that horrificly bad at your job that they want to fire you, they are not going to let you stay on to get severance that isnt happening for a layoff that isnt planned.

So they don’t want you here, and you don’t want to be here. But you’re trying to stay in the hope of getting free money for nothing.
And you wonder why there are problems and cost cutting measures.

The thing about layoffs and severance... It's much easier to find another position when you are currently employed. You also have a better chance of getting the same or even more pay at another company. If you are a part of a group with a known future layoff date, find another job and schedule your start date after your layoff date, then wait it out. For any other scenario, it's in your best interest to find another job with comparable or better pay now. You can not count on a nice severance package that will replace future losses due to time unemployed. Also, once you are unemployed, prospective companies will look at you differently, and most likely low ball your salary if you are offered a position. So that severance will need to cover long term salary loss in addition to time unemployed.

If the HCL stuff is any indication they'll just change the rules and sc--w you out of severance anyway.

Don't stay on a hope if you have somewhere else to go. Fu-k this place.
