Thread regarding Intel Corp. layoffs

Time to switch career ?

I'm from Folsom and joined Intel as H/W engineer after undergrads and after working for 3 years feels like I'm in a career rut and current economic situation is not suitable for a job switch. Should I consider an MBA degree. I'm pretty sure my powerpoint skills are top notch after working here.

Like @mbi said , get out of Folsom. That place is for retirees . If you're still young and no family obligations , venture out for new opportunities. Startups seems a good option than MBA. But you need to put some stank on your efforts

@2phw Same might be said for the PhD degree as well. Large opportunity cost for spending 5 years in the dank halls of academia, when one could be working in industry.

Good idea. The world needs another chip test monkey turned MBA...

All joking aside, when MBAs were scare it was a great move to add that degree. Now, business schools take in and graduate almost anyone. Meanwhile the price of the MBA has tripled. On a pure ROI basis, unless you are actually one of the bright business thinkers you won't really find the degree is worth much.

Given you options are thin, and the US is going into recession you may want to conserve $$, unless of course you can get a manager at Intel to sponsor and fund the MBA. Those days are probably over though. GL have fun.

Whatever it is, first get out of Folsom! Intel built Folsom site to reduce attrition. Once people get settled in Folsom they will whine about career and salary but since their family is settled in Folsom and housing is cheaper, they will continue at Intel though their skills and career get into a rut

Grind Leetcode day and night until you are good at it and can interview for software jobs.

You don’t need another degree, you just need to update your resume and get a new job. You won’t find a new job unless you try. Good luck!
