The positive aspect of the All Talk No Action is that I've learned that if there is an initiative that makes my life particularly awful due to a foolish increase in workload that anyone can tell is not going to yield results, if I keep my head down & power through, it will go away to be forgotten.
It keeps all the new and naive employees happy and makes investors think we are actually doing something to improve our products and services.
I remember about 2004 or 2005 when CMM was being pushed across Pearson, the Capability Measurement Model. Today it's known as CMMI. It has all these levels. Once you get to Level 3 or Level 4 or Level 5, you have reached nirvana! We will get all those No Child Left Behind contracts, they said. That didn't happen.
Today it's: "We need to practice age discrimination" to get to the promised land.
Oh, you need a new computer? We have this stack of beat-up old laptops with tiny screens and dead pixels. Don't complain.
Oh, you need a new $15 headset with microphone? I will hold it against you for denting my budget.
Oh, you need an external display? We have this old 14" LCD with a VGA cable.
Did you take your yearly harassment training in PearsonU? Because if you don't take that every year, you'll forget and start harassing people.
