Thinking about applying for US Bank

Is this a good company to work for in an IT manager role?

I heard they're hiring new IT Risk people in NY/NJ area to replace the ones who are getting fired soon.

Yes. Great opportunities in IT risk in the NY/NJ area. They are still 100% remote if u are looking for a remote role.

Use u.s. bank as a stepping stone to get something better.

The frontline, technical workers are the best. So many of them are fresh trainees that come to the bank for technical training a few times a year. The thing that they are never told but need to know, two years after your technical training, sharpen your resume. You can get a 40% raise by leaving. Your stress level will be lower and your happiness will improve. Not all technical environments are like the bank. Most places offer growth, modern technology, way more money, better managed projects. Can't hurt to look and you are going nowhere at the bank.

Any news if IT Risk in NYC / NJ teams are being let go?

100% no. Every IT manager in my area has 40+ direct reports, of which about 32 are contractors in India. It's a revolving door of staff with tight predetermined deadlines, which when combined with our 1980's tech and truly horrific agile implementation, is not a recipe for success. If you value your mental health, look elsewhere.

The management levels are exhausting in IT. So much uselessness. They never get anything accomplished because clear direction is never given. Agile has made the entire organization a mess because it was implemented so poorly by management. This used to be a destination company but now is a job of last resort for technical people. So much unhappiness for the people actually doing the technical work. They are never properly appreciated.

No look elsewhere. Leadership is a hot mess and awful. There is no communication.

As people have already said the bank runs on ancient stuff and doesn’t update stuff is 100% true. There is no testing. They don’t allow IT analysts or Business analysts which they desperately need.

No, so many levels. So much Monday morning quarterbacking. Management believes every problem has a spreadsheet solution. No technical expertise or knowledge. Management assumes programming is easy and programmers are lazy and stupid.

The bank has so much ancient technology that most projects are difficult, you will have no SMEs, full end to end testing is never done, let alone stress testing. All fingers will point at you when eventual failure occurs.

Your bosses never will be helpful or smart. Their only function is planning the next reorg.

Ask where the last manager went during the interview.

The last thing it needs is another I.T. Manager. There are already managers reporting to managers that report to managers who report to managers

I'm going with no. Rumor has it that that's one of the areas that might get hit next round of layoffs.

Stay away from the NY / NJ area, you don’t want to associate with that IT guy…
