All the time we are expected to do more with fewer resources. Whether people quit or are laid off, one thing remains the same. The rest of us will be expected to pick up their work. Heavens forbid we backfill a position or two. I wish my manager would do my job just for one day, so he could see how unrealistic his expectations are.

Correct!
Creating software is all about automating manual tasks that were done by humans. Once everything is fully automated, there will be no need for human capital.
It's basically why we make software is to do more with less. But if your in the EU asked to do more due to someone loosing their job report this to the WC
