Thread regarding Fidelity Investments layoffs

Resigning

I'm resigning in the next week or two. Found a role externally paying 35% more for the same work with a little more responsibility at $150K. Is there a limit managers can offer in terms of counter offers if one is made? I've been rated EP 3 years in a row and strongly believe I'll likely at least get a counter.

I second never accept a counteroffer. Very commonly stated as a rule of thumb nowadays, for many reasons. They’ll know you are looking and things won’t get better anyway, etc.

You may get a counter but it won't be a 35% increase. It will be more of a promise that you'll get an increase during the next bonus cycle. Just be sure you are looking at the entire package of this new offer. I have worked with enough people at Fidelity who have left and they do regret it. The 401K pension plan can't be match anywhere and it does make a big difference in the long run. Also, if you have been getting an EP, you are probably getting a big bonus payout. Keep all of this in mind, ......the grass isn't always greener.

Haha.. direct boss typically has no clue what his/her reports do as they are typically in over their head and lack the tech knowledge required for thei position.
With regards to bosses boss having a clue of who you are, what you do, etc. Unless you’re sleeping with him/her I don’t they even know your name.

What level were you when you got the 3 EP reviews?

If you were lvl 6 or 7 and had 3 EPs, you should be making the 150K base salary already.

Good luck and congrats! Don’t look back and have no regrets.

HR might approve a counter offer at that level if a SVP or equivalent makes a strong case for you. (you HAVE been buttering up the boss's boss, right?) But historically I've only ever seen HR make weak single digit % counter offers with friends. It all depends on who you know

Congratulations on the offer and (likely) new job! I hope it's fully remote. Tell them it's full remote in your exit interview please ...
